This is just me venting:
I'm fighting a dinoflagellate outbreak in my 125. I decreased the MH photoperiod from 8 hours to 4, have been changing carbon weekly, and halved my food. Each week I do a 20 gallon water change after siphoning the sand bed and turkey basting the rocks. Then I change my filter sock. Still, by Thursday my tank will be brown again.
Last week I was organizing some wires and dropped the power cord to my mp40 in the sump. I grabbed it out and zapped myself. I left it in rice overnight but it didn't work the next day. Replacement is $50. This evening I noticed that one of my centerbraces from my top eurobrace popped free. There's no visible bowing but I haven't held a true square to it.
I'm getting ready to apply for residencies and conduct interviews around the nation, and it's going to be expensive. All in all, I decided tonight that it would be easiest if I tore the tank down and just restarted in a few years.
But funk that. I'm keeping it. I'm going to rebrace the top, replace the power cord, and ride out this dinoflagellate wave. I rarely do things for myself and I really enjoy this hobby. Huzzah! And so it goes on.
