Alternative for Interceptor

It appears I have a red bug problem on my SPS. I wanted to know if anyone has an effective alternative to Interceptor since apparently there currently is a shortage. I understand that trifexis contains milbyecin however it also contains another med for the treatment of fleas, so I don't know if it can be used in an aquarium. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have used Bayer advance complete insect killer
3mil per cup
5 minutes per dip
You will have to remove coral from Dt
Also heard of turkey basting them off corals into WC for wrasses

So are they not in the WC already; how are they getting from one colony to another? If I just dip them, will they just not get reinfected once placed back in the dt? I'm just wanting to learn as much as possible is the reason for all the questions.

You have to starve them out to get rid of them if you’re not going to treat the whole system. You will have to set up a quarantine tank and take all of your SPS corals out and I think it takes 4 to 6 weeks but don’t quote me on that. I am not an expert but I have had red bugs in the past and they are a pain without treating the DT with interceptor to get rid of them.

Was there any reason given for the shortage?

The manufacturer is currently not making it is all I know. I've called several vets locally and received the same answer. 1800petmeds states it will be unavailable for 3-4 months.

What is the dosage rate for interceptor? I have access to one 23mg pill and have a 125 gallon DT.

I did the bayer treatment over a year ago did it 3 times a week apart and didnt see them come back. It is scary. Check out the thread in the sps forum and follow the instructions.

I did find that thread and am going to try the Bayer treatment will let you all know how it went!

Well, I dipped my Joe the coral colony and tri-color stag in the Bayer treatment and was amazed how infested they really were. Five minutes after returning the Joe back to the DT, PE was back to normal. I'll dip the rest of my acros that I can remove tomorrow. Thank you Bobkill for the information and Chris for the encouragement. Attached is a picture of the dip water run through a brine net.

I had a couple of acros stress in the treatment but i dipped them in revive and they all pulled through. It was much easier than i thought. Make sure you do it several times over the next month.

Still scary to dip coral into something that has 'killer' in the title !
Glad it went all well-

I'd have to agree!

So I spent the last eight hours dipping corals. I dipped my blue tort, red planet, strawberry shortcake, Scripps stag, hollywood stunner chalice, purple haze monti, red monti cap, purple-rimmed monti cap, red monti digitata, tyree decadia, Joe the Coral base, tricolor stag, green birdnest, green milli, and red milli, psammacora. All went well for the most part. I unfortunately had to break apart my purple-rim monti cap as it was completely encrusted on the ledge; really bummed me out. However, it had to be done as I had found black bugs on both monti caps. The only SPS that is questionable is the tyree decadia. We will see how it turns out.

Why did you dip every coral? I thought that only acropora sp. are affected by red bugs.

Ihad some black critters crawling around my montis. I wasn't sure if this treatment outdoor work on these guys, so I thought I'd try it. I thought RB only affected Acros also, but I was told that they can affect other SPS as well.
