Alternative Protein Skimmer For Red Sea Max S 650 litres

Hi Guys

I set my tank up in June 2016 and it's my first tank of any kind and am learning everything (very quickly!!). It's a reef tank, 650 litres so around 175g in total.

The current system has a C Skimm 1800 which I have read loads of threads about it being a little noisy and hard to set up etc. Mine is all running fine but I must admit it does seem to 'hum' quiet a lot and I'm now starting to look at other options.

I like the look of the new Deltec SC series skimmers and just wondered if anyone has any comments or recommendations etc?? I seem to think I read that these are self regulating so you don't need to mess to much with them??

Also the C Skim is connected to the system with a hose to the main system pump but am I correct in thinking the Deltec for example, just sits in the sump without being connected to a water feed hose ? I.e it's takes water from the bottom of the sump?

Money is not an object with this, I just want the best and something that is ultra silent and can easily pull out all of the waste etc but being new to this I haven't had much experience with any other skimmers etc. Presumably I can go with a protein skimmer rated for a slightly bigger tank if I wanted to?

Will have a look at the Royal Exclusiv as well and I have also been looking at the Tunze Master DOC 9420 and 9440 which look quiet good ?

The Bubble Magus D8 will fit in under the shelf that the Redsea Cskim sits on....a D9 will also fit there but you need to slice the small shelf brace off one side.
Both run silent as their DC pumps - only quirk the BM DC ones have is if power goes off then comes back on you need to manually restart them - they won't automatically restart.
Some like that feature as it means they don't overflow if the water level is still high,Makes them useless plugged into a controller tho, power off no problem but when told to come on they stay sleeping.

Royal Exclusive. They have a section on this forum and Slief is a great contact on here to get all the information you could ever want about them a d where to get them in the UK. I was a fan of ATB until they started shipping their skimmer with Jebao pumps.

I'd also recommend a bubble king (same thing as royal exclusiv). I think a bubble king mini 180 would be a perfect fit.

Thanks guys for all the comments very helpful and will have a look into all of these.

Not sure about the bubble Magnus as I would want it to come back on when the power comes back on not stay off.

The Bubble Magus D8 power off issue is just madness, l have the same skimmer, performs great, avoid until power off issue is sorted.
