Alternative to Neptune temp probes?

Hello, Was wondering if there are any other manufactures of temp probes that will work on the Apex or any of the AC's? I'm getting sick of having to buy new probes every 6 months! I run 3 different Neptune controllers and always seem to be replacing one or the other.
Why won't the Neptune probes hold up?

Thanks

I am not sure about alternative sources; I suspect you can take one appart and build your own but it also doesn't make sense that you are replacing probes so often. My oldest probe is (was, it recently dies) over 10 years old, my newest probe is over about years old.

Are you certain your probes are really going bad?

on the old AC Jr's they used a different probe that went bad between 6 mos to a year. Neptune switched to a new style like the Apex uses and they seem to fare much better. I was actually trying to see how often the new style needs to be replaced and found this thread.

If you are using the new style something doesn't sound right.

How do you know the probes are going bad every 6 months. I notice significant changes in my temp every 6 months as well, but I think that has to do with the tilt of the planet more then bad probes.(summer, winter, summer, winter) ;-)

do your changes in temperature range about 100 degrees f? ;-)

I am pretty sure the probe is bad when it says the tank is 122 degrees and a regular floating thermometer says the tank is 76 degrees and the next minute it says the tank is below freezing.

Add that to the fact that with the old style probes it was a KNOWN issue. Hence the reason they changed design.

It may be the case with older style and you may have seen a range of 100*F, but the original poster never stated they were using the older style or answered kenargo's question. My post was directed at the original poster.

I have never experienced a bad probe yet and I work with about 6-7 of them. Just curious how they know it was bad and curious if it really was bad or if they notice changes every 6 months because they live in a climate where the temps change every 6 months.

I had a probe that acted erratically due to being too close to my electronic ballast. Once away from it, things were fine.
