I have an extra one and I want to put it to use. I don't need it for phosphate removal.
Could I use it for dosing, or mixing of some sort.. Iprobably could but I wouldn't know where to start. Some ideas would be helpful.

thanks

carbon, ok. how much carbon are you using? I have used carbon maybe once in like 4 years with a fish only. do you use it in reefs?

anything else?

GAC & GFO

GAC & GFO

I use both granular activated carbon (GAC) and granular ferric oxide (GFO) in my reactor. The rule is 1 tablespoon of GFO for every 10 gallons of water. In the case of PHOSaR HC, 1 tablespoon for every 20 gallons of water. The rest of the reactor is filled with GAC otherwise the GAC will not last as long as GFO.

Randy Holmes-Farley mixes the GAC and GFO together. I separate them with a sponge pad with the GFO on top simply to be able to see the GFO "gently boil" with the flow.

I'm trying different forms of GAC. The "in" GAC appears to be Norit ROX 0.8 from www.twopartsolution.com. My GFO is PHOSaR HC.
