Long story short, I had a nano setup that recently went full blown bryopsis. I tried the Tech M/ high pH deal for 4 weeks and it helped a lot, but the low lying stuff wouldn't go away. I decided to break down the system and start over.
I drained the tank, scraped all algae off and scrubbed then let air dry. I cleaned all the plumbing out with vinegar water solution and lots of scrubbing then let dry out. Cleaned the skimmer and all pumps as well. I also siphoned out the sump but left some water in (no light gets into the sump). The sump also contains a RDSB that I removed the top layer from and replaced with new. When I reset the system I used (2) 5 gallon buckets of the original water that had been sitting with no heat for 2 days + all new rock (base rock that had been dried out and cleaned for several months), then fragged all my sps off of their bases to prevent any from coming on the rocks they were attached to. Lastly I topped off with new salt water.
My question is: because I still have some of the water from the original system is it possible for bryopsis to migrate into my tank that way. Same deal with the sump and the frags. I might increase my Mg levels back above 1600 for the meantime just to make sure.
