Mine eats any frozen food i feed, ill try and gte a picture of its stomach but i gotta find my digital camera firstso ill get back to you.

An established sandbed and copepods are important, but an ample supply of filamentous algae is even more important. A. rainfordi is similar in this regard. This species needs to have filamentous algae in its diet for long term health.

*Edit* I actually think that filamentous algae is an often underestimated (and rather large) part of various Amblygobius sp. diets.

Amphiprion:

Got a link with LOTS of filamentous algae pics?

What do you mean? Basically you want a well established tank that the fish can browse on the rocks and sand, nipping the bits of common and various kinds filamentous algae (often the algae we work hard to get rid of :) ). I don't think there is any particular kind they prefer (someone correct me on that, please, if it is wrong, because I don't know), just as long as they have some to browse upon.

Okay cool. I just wanted pics of various filament/hair algae for reference. I always thought that most "pest" macroalgae was in fact filament/hair algae and just wanted to compare what I see in my tank with the "well known" hair/filament algae types out there. :D

I have a hectori in my 225 gallon reef, he sifts the sand to eat, and NEVER touches any hair algae in the tank... I love him though, as his color is great!

Unless you are able to watch it 24 hrs per day, I doubt that. It is eating algae at some point in time whether you see it or not.

I just saw it after 3 hours of watching him... Yawn, he does eat the hair algae... His color is cool and he even has an orange tipped trigger like fin that goes up and down at will... Get one, mine has been alive for a while without incident and even eats mysis shrimp sometimes...

My ranford in a 180 gal is doing great for nearly a year. I want to add a hector, but am afraid they will be territorial and will not get along because they are so closely related.
Anyone have both in the same tank?
