Amino Acids, Are they worth it?

Ya post up any results from acro power. I really think that if you are a very light feeder than these products will help you out. If you feed enough to get target nitrate you will see only more glass cleaning.

Definitely I saw increased polyp extention when I started these. I dose 50 ml per day on 1500 gallon system. In am. I noticed the change within 48 hrs big time. But it seemed to slowly make less a difference. I'm still using them though btw.

I started using AcroPower about 3 months ago when I was experiencing some lackluster color from my green slimer and a few other SPS. The colors fading leading into browning out might have been related to the shock of GFO being introduced into my system but none the less, I noticed colors coming back and getting more vibrant within a couple of weeks of dosing. I'd like to believe that the Amino Acids helped out and it wasn't just the corals bouncing back from GFO introduction and the fast and drastic phosphate level changes. I started out using it once a week but switched it to once a day in smaller doses (10 ml/once a week to 1.5 ml/day).

Here's a picture of my Green Slimer a little bit after the color loss started (3/25/14)

Here it is a little over a month after using Acropower (5/3/14)

I can't be sure but soon we will find that there is some ratio of light intensity to nutrient ratio. That either gets too low in our tanks. Pale coral or brown from too little nutrients and low light to... crazy colors!! high crazy light and pretty good nutrients. But I also think the zoonath. Can also stn from too much and almost just give up. Too much work. There is a proper balance.

There is no data to actually support the above statement. Corals are known to be able to synthesize their own amino acids, and it's debatable if all corals are even capable of taking them in from the water column.

I feel that most reports of success with amino acids is because they indirectly boost nitrogen levels in a nitrogen starved tank. From some testing I've done with my tanks, dosing amino acids and dosing a small amount of nitrate will have the same effect on coral coloration. Potassium nitrate and sodium nitrate in very pure forms are dirt cheap, amino acids are not. However, in the OP's case, simply peeling back from the carbon dosing should be all that's needed.

i use also sodium nitrate...and pure AA complex are more cheap then 1kg of nitrate...;)

Been dosing 10ml a night via auto doser of Acropower for about three months now. Love the results and wouldn't change a thing. Check your PE in the am just before lights come on after a month of dosing, it will blow your mind! :fun5:

Do you dose 10ml daily?

I just started dosing last night around 3mL. I am going to do 3mL daily. I have a 75 gall tank and a 55 gal sump tank and estimated water volume around 100gal.

Do you guys recommend night time dosing or am dosing or just whenever i remember?
I appreciate those before and after pictures. Pictures strictly show proof to all of us without good cameras about products.

I will try and borrow a good camera and post pictures of before and after about a month's time.

Even your birdsnest looks better!

Sounds right, I have approximately 52 gallons in my system and dose 1.5 ml at the evening feeding time (5:30-6:00).

I have no idea but will be nice to hear other opinions.

You're right, didn't even notice when I posted last night. I traded that Birdsnest on the right about a month ago. The birdsnest were taking up too much room and growing too fast, I wanted to start adding more Acropora so I got some store credit for it. I can't bring myself to trading my other one in though, I bought it at about 1" tall and a single branch. Its now 7" tall and at least 8" wide.

Once you start getting more acros though your going to be hooked so bad your going to want more room for more and probably frag that birdsnest down to a tiny size and only keep a frag. Just WATCH! Acros are extremely addicting

Sure do, have gone through quite a bit and buy the stuff by the gallon now. Growth has been good, but PE and colors are amazing. JMO

Recent FTS, sorry camera phone and dirty glass.

If i am not mistaken you have 3 mp40s and a mp10! holy crap a little overkill? or do you want a lot of flow with absolutely no noise?

i want to get some mp40s but don't want to break the bank, currently have two mp10s and just wished i just bought the big ones.

Which amino's do you dose and do you see any nuisance algae from it?

Yep, 3 40's and a 10 and will be adding another 10. I love the flexibility of just cranking NT mode for a while and cleaning up my tank. BB FTW

I wish i had the extra cash to get to 40s and place my current mp10s on the back wall of the tank. But usually i just want more SPS and can't ever hold my self to saving up the cash for mp40s.

Been 48 hrs already see greater PE on all my SPS and my monti is starting to really turn bright red ( see just got a beating from a new RBTA and left her a few white spots and now she is healing extremely fast.)

Looks like your tank is rimless! if it wasn't for those wrasse i would love to see what it would look like without the top. I am a big fan of the rimless reefs
