You can dose a bacteria in a bottle product (like microbacter7) to help process the ammonia and cycle the tank.

Hopefully there is no livestock in this tank.

Ammonia test..

I would give it a few days but mcgyvr May say use this or that proven addictive. Different philosophies- choose your own adventure.

Edit - I just saw that there is livestock. You need to change water now

Are there any medications in the water? Copper, for example, can cause false positives with liquid ammonia test kits. Also, API test kits are notoriously inaccurate. If your ammonia was that high, the fish should be breathing heavily.

Just observing no medicine

I thought you don't have to cycle a qt? Just watch ammonia levels and do water changes

Yep its possible to not cycle a qt if you need it quickly...but...any ammonia level over .5 is a trigger to change water quickly to maintain it below that...

At 2ppm a 50% change will put you at 1 (still a problem)...another 50% change will put you at .5ppm....(right at the trigger level).. Another 50% to .25ppm...
Get to work ;p

Or I can do a 50% today and buy bacteria in a bottle tomorrow?
