Ammonia

Could a dead snail be a small source of ammonia, say 0.2? Because I originally had 5 bumble bee snails, but I've only seen 4 in the past couple weeks. I assume the last one is dead somewhere where I cant see it and that it may because the cause of the ammonia in my system. Any suggestions, should I just let the bacteria take care of the ammonia or rip things apart trying to find this snail?

In a nano, maybe. If you could go to your lfs and beg a couple of bristleworms of them, they'd find it no matter where lodged, and get it taken care of asap, and they'd take care of surplus food and other areas of rot that might ever develop. Also put some carbon in the filter: that will absorb the ammonia and help. Don't forget to take it out after 5 days, or it might return it to your water. Carbon does that kind of dirty trick if forgotten and left in.

I agree, ammonia in a smaller tank can quickly become a problem since there isnt alot of water volume if something dies.

The snail could be the problem. Maybe look into getting some hermit crabs, they will clean up whatever dies and uneaten food waste. Bristle worms will form on there own within your substrate.
I would do a water change to help try to remove the ammonia.

I'm sorry to tell you this but carbon doesn't remove ammonia. Eventually your biofilter will deal with it. A water change is your best bet right now.
