Amnonia spike during hyposalinity

the salinity is at .09
I took out 99% of the rock. There is probably 10 lbs of total rock in the tank and about 75 lbs of LS.

I am planning tomorrow to bring up the salinity and throw in about 80lbs of est LR in hopes of curbing the amnonia

Did you mean you have 10lbs of rock left and 75 pounds of sand in the hypo tank still? Most living stuff on the rock and sand would of not survived the hypo so that might be the reason for your ammonia spike

?!!!?!?! QT, no LR no LS.

You killed everything on it...Only use PVC pieces for hiding.

smart

Anything in your sand and left over rock in the display is now dead and causing the ammonia spike. You doing hypo in your main display boggles me, generally it is done in a seperate QT tank. Info on hypo is found all over this website.
