Well purchased two yellow finned Damsels yesterday . This morning one missing . Well assume dead not to be found. Well tested water and amonia between 0 and 0.25 again. Well tested tap water with fresh kit = 0 tested water that was in rubbermaid and got same reading as water in tank. Tested water comming out of RO/DI = 0 So I know I'm makeing amonia in water and salt in container water is being stored in. Water with no salt added was stored since last saturday with power head in container . I mixed salt into water on this past wednesday and it's been in rubbermaid trash container since wednesday with the power head. Now the water was made last week with the RO/DI before I changed the filter cartriges. I'm totally frustrated with this tank. My daughter breaks every rule and has a healthy tank.

Ronny, Ronny, Ronny#66. It hardly been a week since you had ammonia problems. I think you are rushing things abit too fast. Did you ever find the source? If so, has it been totally eradicated? Until you find the source, i would discontinue stocking. I understand your frustration, but you are only adding to the problems. Slow down, whats the rush. You have heard the old saying "Nothing good happens fast." Sorry to hear about the lastest casualty. Once the ammonia problem has been settle, you will find life alot easier.

Well not shure about the rush lost a fish a week ago just wanted to replace him. If you read the previous post you will see how Inarrows down but doesn't make much sense. But I tested all ends and this is what i came up with replacing water with water that has same amount of amonia. It was sugested that the humidity here or where salt was stored previous tro purchase picked up humidity cause there were some chunks in the pail. It was sugested this can cause coraline algie microscopic and ause amonia. Well who am I to argue. All I know amonia in salt water mix after I've added the salt and let it mix with power head not before salt is added. Anyone have any further input on this ?

By the way Minfish thanks for advise easy to rush!!

Ronnie,
What type of test are you using? I use the API test kits and these things are about worthless! When you use the API for fresh it does not pick up any ammonia, stays the nicest shade of bright yellow. But when you use the saltwater test in the same brand you have to read the uggliest shade of yellow/green. This becomes tricky because you have to be in just the right light. I've seen the same test look like it's .025 in the house. Then I go outside in the full sun and stand so the test tube is against the white card and the sun is shining straight on it. Now it's the right color.

If you are not getting more than the .025 and you are using the api test kit it's your eyes, not really ammonia.
