amphipod "nest" (video)

after months of copepod domination a new clan has invaded and taken over. amphipods which were rarely if ever seen (3 sightings total) are now as plentyful as the grains of sand.

heres a video of one of the known amphipod nests that used to be a copepod mill.

if you look closely you will see tons of juves, although they look more like sand grains stuck in the weeds

this is my first attempt at using my minidv cam, so bear with me. unfortunately, youtube compresses the video even more.
 
Thats what I have crawling around my tank all the time. Their like the ants of the sea, they carry mysis pieces twice their size around.

davo, its a small "frag plug" that has some red zoos on it. when i got the frag it had a tiny bit of algea on it, and since then has become a mini bush. odd thing, that is the only place in the 10g nano where that algea is attatched.

that little bush is also tiny compared to what it was a month ago. it seems the amphipods have run out of their copepod food supply and are chowing down on that little bit of algea.
