Amphipod questions

Are amphipods good or bad for a reef tank? I have noticed some small ones and a few reply been big ones in my tank. They tend to come out when the light is off and are kind of hideous to look at.

Pods are very good.

They don't come out much during the day. The ones that do, usually get eatin. Yum..

what do they eat? do they eat algae or just detritus. and i have a couple of small brittle stars and i have noticed the amphipods picking at them. is that normal?
