Part of every tank. Good or bad? Probably nothing you can do either way. They will live and grow as space and food allowed. Generally speaking, they are harmless and useful. Don't worry about it.

A lot of fish will eat them if they get the chance I know my jawfish enjoys them if he's quick enough.
