Amphipods Gone.....

I had an aquarium set up for about 3 months and literally had thousands of amphipods and copepods all over the place. It was amazing. When I had to move I broke down the tank and put the LR in a rubbermaid trash can 140lbs worth, with salt water and about 1100gph flow and left it there with a few snails and crabs for one month.
Moved into a new place and reset the trash can up and left it there for about 1 month. It had plenty of flow and clean water.

So i set up the tank two weeks ago and 99% of them are gone.

Where did they go???

They were probably eaten or ran out of food and starved off... This can happen from time to time, but ussually they come back off and on in cycles IME.

The pods are mostly herbiverous without any food going in. no lights means no algae, and no food for the pods, plus you werent feeding. Im sure there are some there still though.

Were the crabs fat and happy when you pulled them out ?

No, not really. I did not notice a difference. Plus the water was zero on nitrates??
