And another build thread. Fluval Spec V...... QT.

Picked up a fluval spec V a few days ago with the intention of making a little reef. Always wanted a stubby clown and had the store on piner order me one a few months ago but had canceled it. Anyways, the tank was sitting on my desk cycling when I found out that my canceled order for the stubby wasn't canceled. So the sucker in me goes and gets him... BUT he's in a tank with fish with ich, and being treated I with copper. Sweet. So now my fluval has been stripped and turned into a mini QT. I'll be running in hypo for a few weeks to make sure he doesn't infest the tank if he has it.

In the mean time I have a bunch of LEDs and dimmable driver coming from rapid, so I no longer need to rush building the lights and getting them where I want them.

I love my rapid led system...the only thing I dont like is that I cant put the knobs on a timer...I want to do just bkue for 2 hrs then just white for 9 hours then blue again for an hour but its cool I have the whole thing on a timer...hope you get rid of the ich

I recently purchased two Rapid Led Onyx lights in anticipation of my new tank. I checked my tracking and they are in San Pablo CA already and should be on the UPS truck tomorrow.

Mine is just 8 loose led's a driver and some wires but I think it will be perfect for the little 5gal tank.

dude my lights i ordered from rapid got here in record time, maybe because i told then i was from WCR.... only 2 days in the mail compared to almost a week on other sites.

I think it's just good service cause I didn't tell them about the club and mine will be here tomorrow and I just ordered them sat.

My LEDs came in from rapid. Went with the dimable driver and indavidual heatsinks. Mounted them up to the factory arm so I could use the stock moonlight. It's a bit too close to the water so I'll be raising it up a inch or two. Also ran out of wire so it's not finished yet. Went with three royal blue, one regular blue, one uv, two cool white and one warm white.. IMO the way it looks exceeded my expectations by a long shot. Very happy.. And DAMN are they bright. I've only had experience with bridgelux LEDs before and these Crees are on a whole different level. Here's a couple pics of Stubblefield in hypo. Not a good representation of color at all but it gives you an idea.

dude those look very good and bright... That's one thing i was debating about wether to use the stock arm piece or finding a way of making a different one that can be height adjustable so the lights are not sitting right on top of the tank.... I also need to remember to stop by TAP plastics and get some acrylic pieces and more Weld-on since mine somehow evaporated.

I figured out a way to get it a touch higher so I think it should workout ok. On full power the heat sinks really don't even get warm. Ran them at 100% last night for four hours and they were barely over room temp. It's nice still having the stock moonlight too.

Yeah my brother has some over his small tank and they stay very cool too.... I'm going to wait and see how it will work better for me.

Hypo is over. Ran it for a couple weeks and said screw it. Flopped my sexy shrimp and some of my zoas over into it as well... Really liking these little led's so far, they are awesome.

Livestock count is:
One stubby clown
three sexy shrimp
a snail
five small hermit crabs
and a emerald crab

There's A LOT less flow in this tank than in my cube where they where before so I'm sure they will be fine. I have no idea how to determine sex on them.

Wow so you might have a breeding trio there if you have a girl.... I'd be interested in maybe a pair of offspring if they have any.... I'm still waiting for my brother to finish my lights but maybe in the meantime I should set it up just to cycle.
