And so my 240 begins...

Nice tank. Looks great. I'm new to sps. The lfs is holding my purchased frags that I'll be populating my 240 with in around a month. Whenever corals touch, there's usually a winner and loser. I noticed that you placed frags really close. You're not concerned with die off and potential bleaching?

If it becomes a problem I'll frag some spots that touch. The only ones I've seen that are really aggressive are Milles. other acros seem ok so far but milles kill quickly.

Well, I have a yellow tang in time out cuz it was getting bullied to near death by its cousin the purple tang so I had it in my tank in a little critter keeper cage.

It somehow got loose and the whole cage with tang inside floated around the tank, knocked off a ton of my colonies and made new frags. I never knew tangs were such good coral farmers.

Left a few scratches in my acrylic so I'll be attempting to wet sand them using 3M micron cloths to buff the scratches out. Has abrasion from 30 to 1 micron, 1 micron being the finest, equivalent to 8000 grit WD sandpaper.

I'll show you guys so that way anyone can attempt it if I'm successful. 3000 grit Trizact WD from 3M leaves some dull spots that are noticeable in acrylic btw...

And so my 240 begins...

So today I used this kit:
Zona 37-948 3M Wet/Dry Polishing Paper, 8-1/2-Inch X 11-Inch, Assortment Pack One Each 1, 2, 3, 9, 15, and 30 Micron https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001BHGC7G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_D3qwxbXYAGW24

To remove the scratches in the acrylic. I did this as an in tank treatment and all went well, all scratches gone!!!

Anyone with acrylic tanks should use this or fine grit wet sand. I went from 3-5-7-8000 grit.

Thanks for asking! I just bought two more OR units because I had dark spots in my tank that I want to get rid of. They should be coming later today.

I'll take a pic, but all fish well and all coral growing healthy! Chiller has only turned on once so far as summer in SD is ridiculously hot the other day.

So now with 5 OR units, there are no black spots. All evenly lit! Have my blues at 91 and whites at 09. Looks great and corals are doing well.

Freak accident happened today. Was fixing one of the units so I unplugged it and the cord fell into the water. I didn't know it. Tripped the GFCI. Couldn't figure out what it was until I tried a few times and each time I switched the lights on the Naso would act funny. Then that's when I saw the cord in the water! I almost had a heart attack. All fish are fine but I truly
Hope my acros are ok!!!!

Main three stable with a doser now. Have it dosing 12 mls each of Alk and Ca every hour. Holds all steady at 8.3.

Corals all growing, toying with the idea of a Ca Reactor, but don't know. Topping off water is about 0.5-1.0 gallon a day. Can't keep NO3 up, and it appears my tank consumes 1 ppm/3 days. I'm dosing Spectracide and it appears the Chaeto is working too well.

A well known reefer in SD sold me this as a pink lemonade and after cleaning the glass of the film algae, I notice the milles and this guy letting their long filaments go! Must need the food.

What are you using for circulation? WP40s? I'm curious as I'm getting a 300DD this weekend... the depth will be a bit different but it's only 6ft so we may have similar flow requirements. Sweet tank! And I have to say I really like that you have gone with a "simplified" filtration/set-up.

Nice tank, I'm following as well.

Thanks!

Well I'm using an Iwaki for the return with eductors so that creates high velocity flow, and I'm using 5 wavemakers at this point: 2 PP20, 1 WP40, and 2 WP25. My philosophy is the simpler the better and it's worked well but I find myself straying from that.

I bought a Geo 618 Calcium reactor because I want to provide the necessary elements for the acros. That should be up and running within the next few days!!!
