Anemone bleached

Why would an anemone bleach? The light/water had been the same for more than two weeks, and yesterday suddenly it decided to be a much ligter share of green - almost whitish-green...

Can bleach from uv/ir radiation from your lights. Especially metal halides. Also temperature plays an important role in bleaching, ir/uv radiation causes the surface of the coral/anemone to become hoter than the surounding water temp. Given more flow, the anemones surface temp will keep up with the surrounding water temp. Given slower water flow, the anemone will rise in temp compared to outside water temp.

Bleaching is the loss of photosythetic pigments due to heat.imo.

Notice any temperature differences?

Yes it had risen from 25.0 to 26.6 the past couple of days due to a mini heat wave here in SA (well I call it that since the temp of the tank always had been 25.0 and now suddenly it rised just before sunset to 26.6C)

Well 80f (26.666 celcius)is not too high as far as temperatures go. 85up is usually the bleaching point.

Do you use halides?

What was the temperature measured with?

Nope have 4 x T5 54W.

Temp is accurate :) A $2000 Hanna Digital Thermistor having accuracy of 0.01C

Will try hand feeding thanks. I have seen my boxer shrimp pinch off some pieces of the anemony's tentacles at night......
