Anemone help

I have two T8 65 watt lights for my 140 gallon atm. Im going to buy LED lights as an upgrade. Im keeping a few easy corals right now and i'm looking for some easy anemones. Can you mention a few easy ones to keep?

Easiest is BTA (bubble tip anemone) at least that will host clownfish. If you are looking for non-hosting anemone there are many other options.

How long has your tank been setup? You should wait 6 months to a year until you add anemones of any kind, you can bend the rule a bit if you have more experience with anemone and know what to look for when purchasing and caring for them.

But stable tank conditions are key to keeping an anemone of any time. Including low nutrient levels of <20 nitrates

Why does the tank have to be stable for 6 months to a year? That sounds like a really long time. My tank has been running for a month or two and I must say I have a few corals in there. They seem to be doing fine.

And for the hosting question, it isn't necessary for me to get a hosting anemone. That's only for breeding right?

Anemones need very good water conditions, light, and a mature system to really thrive. Some of the non-hosting ones can be kept without ideal conditions such as condys and rock anemones. I've also seen where maxi minis are also not as demanding.

I'm responding to your post so you know where I'm coming from. I have an established tank (15+ years) and am switching from a FO to a reef with one of the prime reasons being to keep at least a couple types of anemones. I have been battling nitrates since I began this transition over 2 months ago and will not order an anemone until I get the parameters where there need to be. I'm keeping some mushrooms and xenia at the moment and they're doing fine, but my system is not able to sustain an anemone yet. You want to have the system that will support and help your anemone thrive so that if it does host clowns, you have a great system for both. Also, if you get an anemone before your system can sustain it, it could possibly perish and cause a disaster in your tank.

I know it's hard to be patient but it is worth it in the long run.

Yeah I heard patience is key. At the moment I don't have any nitrate, but that can change of course. Especially because i'm getting morays. But thats for the input mate.

Btw. What is an FO aquarium?

I was typing while you posted your last post. Most people like to watch and are intrigued by the clown/anemone relationship. If you aren't looking to have that, then you can try some of the hardier non-hosting type. It's absolutely not necessary to have a hosting type anemone. I'm also not absolutely positive it's necessary to have a hosting anemone to have your clowns breed - I've looked on line on some of the breeders sites and they keep their clowns in tanks with clay pottery and no anemones.

Fish only.....actually to be super technical :) I've had a FOWLR (fish only with live rock). There are so many acronyms in this hobby!

Always wondered what a FOWLR was haha :D Thank you. But, i'm going for fish, live rock AND corals. Thats not too unusual? I just pick the not so needy corals. Especially since im new.
