Been out of the hobby for a while. Thinking about getting back in. my last tank i had was my favorite, but could be classed up a bit this go around. After many years and many tank setups ive learned that im a clown and anemone guy. My last pair was a breeding pair of booyahs reef onx that i kept for 13ish years in a 40g breeder with 20g sump etc . im Loving the new clown varieties available today. Any suggestions on 30-40g self contained cubes? Trying to keep it a keep it simple stupid setup. I need to start researching whats out there now as far as equipment. As im sure its progressed like everything else. Starting from scratch even though i still do have my old metal halides and t5's somewhere. Im sure its all led now.

thanks

Welcome back!

The vast majority is LED lighting, but nowadays, almost any reef LED will work for corals, it just depends what spectrum or controllability you want (cheaper are typically two channel blue and white while others go up to 8 channel control (or more?) with whites, blues, uv, greens, reds, etc. and you can adjust individual spectrum and intensity).

As for cubes, are you looking for all in one cubes like JBJ or BioCube? Or more just an all in one type set up with a cube tank. Many manufacturers offer cube tank set ups with sub systems that’s are sleek and modern. I’d reccomend checking out Innovative Marine, Waterbox, or Cade. I’d personally stay away from Red Sea due to their well publicized leak issues with seam breaks.

Hope this helps some!

Shane pretty much covered it.

I had a 12g jbj waaay back in the day. Yeah looking to keep it simple with the all in one. Will buy a tank only and build a stand. i built everything in my old setups as far as buying and drilling tanks building sumps etc.

I like the look of the innovative marine 40g cube. Only thing i remember about red sea was their salt and even back in the day it was way to inconsistent.

Ease of maintenance is key with me and automation in the future if i decide to dose anything in the future. Thats the main thing as stability is key and the easier it is the more ill actually do it lol.
