Anemone ID Please...

Hey guys,

I got an anemone for my 20 gallon mini-reef. I know the anemone will eventually outgrow the tank in time, so please don't suggest getting rid of it. I only have it for a month more anyways, when I have to sell my tank. I bought this as a GBTA, but now I'm not sure, as it resembles an H. Mag. a bit. It's hard to tell in the pictures, but it is is purple, and the top inch of the tentacles are olive greenish, and the tips of the tentacles are even lighter green, and then on each tip, there is a dark green dot. If it is an H. Mag, I know it's a small tank, but would my lighting do: it is 6" under a 4x24 watt T5HO fixture. What do you think?

yea man i'm def leaning towards a mag now. now that I think about it, tyler probably wouldn't have put it in the same basket with that other H. mag if this one was a BTA.. and the other was a mag for sure.

That is most definitely a H. magnifica. 20 gallons is too small for any length of time for that species. So, plan to upgrade to a larger tank--like a 50 or 75 gallon.

I have seen GBTA that look just like that, but anemone id is a shady area. IMO, it looks like a bta. I have seen a pink base obvious bta that presented exactly the same after it lost it bubbles in the middle. If you have any pictures of the base that show identifying characterisics (verrucae sp) I might change my opinion. By the way ....PLEASE never keep more than one anemone species in the same tank, even if you treat with carbon and have over 100 gallons of water.
