I will be adding a pair of clowns on my 120G at some point. If I were to add an Anemone, I should probably plan the timing of the two in attempts for the greatest success of hosting. Before I try to figure out which goes first, quarantine or not, which species, etc. I first need to decide if I want to try it.

So, should I add an Anemone to a SPS tank? Is the the risk worth it?

There are risks depending on the anemone species and if it's a wondering individual or not. Also species of Anemone/clown hosting vairies from species to species as well. I know bubble tips can be known to wonder around the tank till they find a spot they are happy in. As for timing putting them all in at once or putting in them in separately really doesn't matter. Just introduce them into the tank in the same area if it's a larger tank.

I'm don't really much care for Carpet Anemone's. One reason is that I have seen some get so large they tend to dominate the tank.

Yeah but they don't roam around like BT's do and split and have clones running around then.... Course you could always get the little Hiller ones. They roam around all over the place and split fast as zoa's but are fairly harmless but not hosts.

Which varities are thought to roam less?

Mike
Like Chuck said it depends. BTAs are probably the easiest to keep but they are rock dwellers so their roaming could do more damage.
LTAs, H. chrispa or M. doreensis, are sand dwellers so in theory should pose less of a threat to corals. Then again you're bare bottom right now so one may not work without accommodations.

In three different tanks my BTA(s) have wandered very little if at all...except the one that went through a seio in my 20...yuck nem puree.
At one time I was up to 23 or so in the 220 and they all stayed on their "half" of the tank. :rolleye1:

I gave Matt one and it walked all over his tank until he had to trade it in.

Oh I forgot
When I got my BTA the maroon clown swam into the bag to host. A few years later a skunk clown took 14 months to move up from xenia to an anemone.

So far, the only Anemone's that I like is the Sabea and Bubble Tip. Most likely the bubble tip since it is easier to keep and the clowns I like will host in it. So, I guess the question is whether it is worth the risk to keep a Bubble Tip or not.

i had a sebae in a SPS 125 ... never moved from where i put it, and as of right now, it is living in a friends 180 SPS tank and has only moved a couple of inches from its original placement. sebaes tend to move very little unless they are starved for light.
