I'm giving serious consideration to replacing my TUNZE 6060 with a closed loop system to avoid potential problems with the anemone being sucked into it.

How many are using Powerheads in their tanks and how many choose not to, please post comments below on your thoughts on the subject!

i just bought flexible plastic canvas mesh at arts and crafts store. black and cheap and easy to cut. i'm about to cover my 3 streams and 4 MJ1200's. i'm also wondering if anyone else covers their streams. i just started a thread on that very topic 2 minutes ago. i'm alittle concerned about overheating and cutting off some output but all i keep hearing is cover your powerheads...

I used the needlepoint mesh/zip ties on my Seios and skimmer pump(HOB). I may try to use it as a mesh wheel on the skimmer.

DMK,

Did you get the needlepoint mesh? That is what I'm considering.
yes, i just finished my 3 streams and 4 MJ1200's. i bought black and it's perfect. if u are gonna cover inlets, i highly recommend it. walmart has it but they didn't have black. an arts and craft store has it. ask for black plastic canvas mesh. i bought 6 12X13 sheets for $3. i only needed 2.

Once the anemone is happy it will never move. Once mine stayed in one spot I put in the power heads, saee pics he has been there for 2 years now.

That's not true at all...there are any number of changes in tank chemistry and so on that can make an anemone move, not to mention it might just do it one day.

I have no powerheads in my "anemone tank". I had two anemones in my "reef tank", one was a 12 inch BTA. It got shredded in my SEIO 620 overnight. I never thought the little pump could do it. There was nothing left of the nem but a bunch of green tentacles floating around the tank. Then I reduced the flow, thought I had covered it up well enough, and my second BTA got sucked in and partially shredded! I would not trust guards, meshes, whatever. Do a closed loop and put meshes around the intakes. With a powerhead, the nem can stretch thru the mesh and end up chopped up by the impeller.

...that's good to hear... i think u have alot less chance of a nem not ghetting chopped up, especially with a guard, if u keep powerheads away from LR (up higher out of reach). only way it can get it then is if it climbs glass or floats free...

This is what I did w/ my TUNZE. Instead of putting the zip-tie all around the unit, I just cut some small holes at the top for it. I think this looks okay. You can already see how much gunk has built up in it in about 18hrs of use!

slits still exposed. it's hard not to though w/ the streams. i put mine like yours except my strip is wider, goes out up to actual outlet.

I have powerheads in the tank my nems are in right now, but that's going to change w/ the new tank.
I'm surprised more people don't use quick clips, they work great.
And easy to clean.
