Anemone won't attach.

Got a sebae from a friend because it was not doing well in his tank. I have it in a 10 gallon nano that stays a constant 79 degrees, gallon per week WC and 2 percs.

The anemone wont plant its foot onto anything. There doesn't seem to be any damage to the foot and the anemone is very stick and is eating well. Any ideas?

I am having the same problem with a long tentacle anemone that I have had for 2 weeks. It will not attach but at least it's not wandering. I'm wondering when to throw in the towel and get rid of it/return to lfs where I got it?

Both sebae and LTA are sand dwelling species, so when they are first introduce, make sure you introduce to a sandbed of no less than 3" deep, that way once attached, they will not move that much.

If the deep sandbed is missing, they will wander around and might not settle and die since it cannot get the security

I've got about 2 inches of sand in the 10gallon and I have the anemone placed at the rock/sand interface. Should I try to bury the foor with some sand to see if that help or am I wasting my time?

What color is the Sebae?

What are your water parameters?

What lights do you have?

Lastly, if the anemone does settle in, it will outgrow a 10 gallon in a short amount of time. They can easily get over a foot and a half across.

I have a 180 to place it in however I did not want to disrupt the spawning GSM's in that tank. The nitrates, phos are undetectable. 1.025sg. watertemp is a constant 79 and the tank has 4x 24 t5's about 14 lbs of rock and clowns. A few soft corals.

The sebae is brown with eggshell color stripes. It is very stick and the foot doesn't appear to be damaged. The oral disc is closed.

Nems usually dont settle when they dont like where they are (no disrespect - you params seem fine). It could just be that your params are vastly different from where the nem came from. I once got a nem from a mate who's nirtates were >50 - would not settle in my tank with zero nitrates. How long did you acclimatise the nem for? See if you can get the salinity and temp values from where it came from. These may help. The longer it takes for the nem to settle, the worse it becomes for the nem as it becomes stressed and will expel zoo and probably starve. Not all dom and gloom though, could just be taking its time in settling - play with lighting and flow as this also helps....
Best of luck mate

I spent about an hour acclimating it. It has not deflated any that I have witnessed. It did eat last night which made me feel better and the clowns have started to host it which I hope doesn't irritate it further. I guess I will give it time and cross my fingers.

Ummm... puzzled by this one... I take it the foot is not damaged in any way? Where is it now - settled in one spot or playing Mr tumble weed? Perhaps a pic would help. Up to you, could as you say just wait and see what happens......
Good luck mate and let us know

My LTA moved/floated around for a week or so until it finally decided to settle in. I have a shallow sand bed of about 2" so its not perfect anchoring conditions. I dug a small hole in the sand where I thought he'd like (and where I"d like) and plopped him in there, also reduced the flow in that area and within a day or two, he anchored his foot between to pieces of rock. I then carefully pushed the sand up around the foot to make it feel comfy. It has been there about 3 months now with no problems.

Good luck

btw, here is a pic of the foot anchored in at the base of the rocks.

anemone wont settle either

anemone wont settle either

i have two long tentacle anemones and both wont settle they are both the same species and all my water parameters are good and a have a successful carpet and condy anemone condy i have had for 3 months carpet almost a year now i dot know why my 2 LTA's wont settle. can any one help me :crazy1: oh and one of the LTA has a hosing clown fish

130 gallon with 40 gallon sump with metal halide

I had LTA on 1 spot for more than month. The day I added mag carpet it left. Also had "excited" look.
Try to add ****load of active carbon to mask chemical warfare, or get rid of some species.
BTW do you have sand bed? As LTA need 3"+ to burry in. Or put foot into rock cave, it does not just attach to flat rock normally.

hey dude, I just got a purple long tentacle anemone. It keeps moving to where ever there is light. during the day it moves about seeking wherever there is light because I don't turn on the lights in my tank until afternoon. I'm quite relieved to know this is a common experience with these nems. It is quite interesting watching these giant nems puff up in different ways to move. please keep us updated on your experience, and if your nem's have finally settled into one spot.

I seriously doubt this will disrupt your GSM's spawning in any way, other than they could relocate to the new nem.
It is SO difficult in that small of tank to keep stable params, good light, and the sand bed deep enough for a sebae(I'm assuming a crispa) and just FYI my last crispa max'd out at 2'
If you have space in your 180g I would be inclined to place it there if you plan to keep it.

Sorry to add on to this post, but I am new to the reef world and I can't figure out how to make a new post. I just bought my first anenome yesterday and even after a ton of research, the fish store somehow convinced me to buy a partially bleached anenome. It won't attach to the floor and it just keeps getting sicker looking as time goes by. I didn't want to interfere with it too much, but I read about helping it by exposing the glass and then burying it. This didn't help at all. I don't know what to do at this point. All my tests have came back great except for the smaller trace of nitrate but it's barely detectable. My light is a coralife dual fixture high output t5. I don't know if that is good or not but when I bought it they told me it would be good for corals... Any help would be appriciated I'm so upset about this and I will do anything to save it!
