not wanting to hijack somebody else's thread in the Anenome forums. I AM still pretty new to the hobby, especially salt.
so I will post here......

I am so intrigued by the anemone. I have a couple of corals in my 75, and I want more. every time I look on Live Aquaria, the descriptions for reef safe either says "NO" or "with caution". yet every video or image I look at has tons of coral in it.

is it just a total crap shoot?
or is there such a thing as an educated guess here?

I have numerous nems in numerous mixed reef tanks. I have not had any issues to date, not saying that cant happen though.

IME they do tend to move around from time to time, but I have never seen them settle in the middle of a colony.

BTAs can move around. So if their tentacles brush against a coral it can sting them. In reality if they find a good spot to wedge their foot, like the light, and flow is good for them.. then they will probably stay put. You can always move corals if an anenome gets too close. They are reef safe imo, just keep an eye out for the wondering nem

If happy and settled in a spot a nem will not normally move unless something changes in the tank such as flow. After the nem has settled feeding it once or twice a week will also help it remain there.

My tank is one of the examples of a BTA causing havoc. I had a LTA that had quadrupled in size to about 8" really happy, ate well for a year. But my clowns ignored is so I decided to put a BTA on the other side of the tank.

It settled in on my mushrooms which started to shrivel and dislodge, so I move the BTA. It wandered around for a few weeks looking less and less happy. It settled in next to my torch and quickly wiped out a third of the torch so I moved it again. This is when it stated to shrivel

In hindsight I should have changed my carbon since about the same time my LTA, while never physically encountering the sting war, started to shrink and pulled up moving around - getting smaller by the day.

My water parameters were not changing, so I kept up the same routine.

The BTA failed and with a few days, while it had found a new home and seemed happy, the LTA also died.

If you can move the corals, you should be in good shape. Don't make my mistake and move the anemone in favor of a coral. Let it find a home and go with that

New Carpet Anenome

Hello,

I am new to posting and just purchased a carpet anemone. I have a two part question. I have a tall tank (36" W - 28 " D - 48" H) and will need to lower the carpet safely to the bottom. I can not reach the bottom and wondered if anyone has used anything to hold it that has worked. My second question is my lighting. I have 2, AI Hydra 26 HD's and wondered what the optimal setting was for the different colors. I currently have it at the factory settings but have not played with it much. Thank you for any help anyone can provide.
