angel fish reef safe?

I just picked up a flame angel and a flame back for my 75 rr. I am mostly trying to do sps with some lps and softies. I am mainly concerned on the sps.

All fish are individuals, but in general there is no such thing as a reef safe Angel. Some people get lucky and their particular fish won't munch on coral. My advice is to keep it well-fed and hope for the best.

No such thing as reef safe angel. All you can do is keep your fingers crossed and hope it doesnt decide corals are tasty.

Try it. If it doesn't work out, just trap it and trade it in.

lamark.....watanabi.....my regal is reef safe at this time.....1 1/2 years?.....I have a red sea regal, lamark angels in my tank....never see any niping?...

Im following along with this thread. I purchased a smaller aquarium for soft corals and zoanthids. I have seen a couple people in the Columbus area keep Regal Angels with corals(SPS,hammer, and elegance corals). Im wondering if this is the normal trend or if other angels are able to be kept with coral?

Im planning on using my larger aquarium to house SPS and hopefully an angel. Just wanted to make sure people didn't think I would attempt to pepper an angel in a small aquarium. Lol

They have pygmy angels. So there are some that can be put in smaller tanks

I have both a Flame and a Flameback in my 150 reef. No problems so far. 8 months for the Flame and 2 months for the Flameback.

I have a flame angel, regal and a blue girdle angel and so far so good. I feed a lot with dry,rods food and I get scallop from the grocery store. I look at it this way. I have a lot of sps and if they nip a little it will not hurt. I made sure that I got smaller juvinelle fish so they might not already have that tendacy.

The answer is YES AND NO.

As stated before. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

I would worry LESS about your SPS and *MORE* about the LPS. Almost all angels have a tendency to nip at LPS corals, usually the fleshier/meaty types. Of course, some never do. And then some become Reef Lawnmowers.
Also, keep your corals *Healthy*. This is important, as wild Centropyge & other angels eat coral mucus & dead polyps. They will do this often in captivity.
And personally, I do not know any fish you can say is 100% Reef Safe at all times. This term needs to be removed from the Hobby, IMO.

A Bellus angle fish is reef safe.. $100+ though if you can find one.

I have a flameback, flame, and coral beauty in a mixed reef tank with no problems--not with each other or with corals. Guess I got lucky.
