Angel Fish Research

I am researching several possible fish for my tank. Right now I am researching dwarf angels and wanted some input from local reefers. One thing I notice is that a lot of these angels are marked as delicate shippers. I was wondering which angels does everyone have experience with, good and bad, as far as survivability goes. Any other information is welcome.

Thanks

"edited some bad spelling sorry"

The Coral Beauty is a possibility, I didn't see anything on live aquaria or WWM about Cherby. Do you know where I can find some info on them.

Thanks for the input

Well the cherub sounds a little aggressive for me at this point. It sounds like it would be a good last fish for me to add but I still have a few that I would like to add at this point. The price is definitely right though. Any other thoughts?

I have found most of the dwarf angels to be at least somewhat aggressive. I would make it the last fish you add, if you can.

Many people like Flame angels, I am having good luck currently with my Potter's, but they are usually not real good survivors. I had a Fisher's Angel for a long time too.

They just need some room and some sponge to pick at from time to time.

Do all the angels pick at/need sponges? I don't really have much along the lines of sponges in my tank.

Does anyone have any other recommendations for a medium size, colorful, active fish. appropriate for a 75G softie tank.

I really like Flame Angels. They tend to have great personalities but they can be a bit agressive. I have a Flame and a Cherub (I know, bad idea) and they do chase eachother around once in a while but there are plenty of hiding spots. I feed Rod's food and my own mix based on Rod's and whatever I can find at the local markets. It does pick all day at whatever is in the tank but eats just about anything I put in the tank. If you keep an eye out you can probably get one from another reefer and I am sure it will be eating well, if you do the LFS, just be sure to see it eating.

Just my opinion,

Faz

Thanks Faz,
I like the idea of getting one from another reefer. It is going to be a few weeks before I am ready to get one so I will keep my eyes open.

Hint Hint Everyone.

I am still unsure of which angel I would like. I am looking at the herald now and some one also suggested I look at Genicanthus sp. Angels. The thing I like about them are they are a bit larger and more of the show type fish I am looking for.

I know someone who is trying to get rid of a flame angel.....wonderful fish just he is "tired" of it aka the wife doesnt like it and want a pygme lol

I have owned several dwarf angels(lemonpeel, potters, and flame) and none of them ever bothered corals at all. The lemonpeel is a little territorial if another ifsh is added afterwards, but it settled down after a few days and is doing fine with all tankmates. -Steve

Thanks Salty. It will be about a month before I am ready for it though. If it is still available then I would definetly be interested.

Good info everyone, Thanks

well, just got home and my friend works with me, he brought it in and it was sold in 30 min lol sorry.....I may know someone else who has one I will talk to them tomorrow and let you know :)

I just bought a bi-color and he adapted very quickly, was eating within a couple of hours. Pretty fish with bright yellow and dark blue.

I have had a bi-color for almost five years. It is about 2 1/2 " long . Doesn't bother any other fish. Good eater. Eats anything I put in.

Really only 2 1/2". I was hopping they got a little bigger than that. How about your corals, does it bother any of them?

There are many species of dwarf angelfish. Look at multi-barred angelfish, one of my favorites. Also for food, I would suggest the angelfish frozen food by Hikari. It contains sponge, and both my navarchus and coral beauty love it. Good luck.
