Angel fish

How many angel fish per aquarium. In my case 75g. I want a coral beauty and/or fire angel.

I read they can nip at coral. Are there any angel fish that are reef safe?

IMO, I would not try that. There are few people who have been successful doing this long term, and generally those few successful people did it in larger tanks (with this not working sometimes).

Pygmy angels are a toss up as to whether they will be OK in a reef or not; it depends on the fish you end up with. There a few truly reef safe angelfish (bellus, lamarck and spotbreast), but those get too big for your tank.

I agree. Some people have made it work with two dwarf angels added concurrently, but the odds are against you.

Odds against me for the fish attacking the corals or just surviving?

The odds are strongly against you mixing a coral beauty and a flame angel in the same tank.
Most likely one will die or possibly both from injuries acquired while fighting.

Odds are generally 50/50 that a single pygmy angel will nip at coral with some types like pygmy cherub angels being more likely than others. I had one coral beauty that was totally reef safe and then another that nipped the corals so much they were starting to die. It really depends on the individual fish.

As nipping goes, IME, dwarf love fleshy LPS. SPS, left alone for the most part, but lesser PE. Haven't had any issues with zoas or clams.

As far as mixing.... It can be hit or miss, and can end poorly. Have to have a back up plan (( hoping to sell it, or take back to an LFS, is not a back up plan, IMO )) --- which means having another dwarf free tank to move one of them into.

For me, I currently have a coral beauty, flame and multicolor in my 65. The 3 of them being together for 3 plus years now. The coral beauty and multicolor were together an additional year (( bought a townhouse, so I moved fish around during the move )).

In my 75 I have a flameback and venustus, been together for about 3 months, no issues so far. They will be moved into my 210 when it is finally set up.

In both cases I used an acclimation box.
The venustus was in the 75 first, the flameback was in the box for 7 days.

With the 65, the coral beauty and multicolored were there first. The flame was added after spending 7 days in the acclimation box. Was some minor casing at first, but never a torn fin.

I have never had a dwarf angel nip on coral, but nipped on clam.
