Angel-safe(r) corals

I recently added a Regal Angel to my reef tank. The fish is doing really well, but, has taken a liking to munching on my zoos. I knew this was a possibility, so I am not totally shocked or anything. What I am trying to get is some input on is what corals the larger angels seem to tolerate.

What is in the tank now are some Montipora, Mushrooms (Discosoma and Rhodactis), Zoos (for now), Palys, a Pagoda Cup, a Scroll Coral, one Favia (so far its ok), Ricordia, and two clams.

I had planned on this being the only large angel in the tank. But since it has already begun to decimate my zoos, I may add a Scribbled Angel as well.

Thanks!!!!!!!

Well, a word of warning: that Rhodactis will eat fish and if your clown ever decides to associate with it, it will be eaten. Regals CAN be ok in a reef OR they can have a mental makeover and eat corals. Scribbled more likely to do so.

Thanks, snorvich. My Regal is obviously not ok in my reef. So, now that I can't keep certain corals anymore, I am looking to replace what it destroys with compatible corals. Also, with the thought of possibly adding the Scribbled Angel later. So, basically, I'm trying to find out what corals are 'resistant' to predation by these angels.

My clownfish hosts in Rhodactis & never has been eaten, though I often wish she had the little B----! Rhodactis seem indestructible. I don't think angels like 'shrooms. My C. bicolor treats them as scenery if not completely invisible. The more toxic soft corals, or LPS with potent stings are better selections with angels. I've had no issue with Favia other than the mushrooms overtaking & killing them ( no fish needed). I should never have added the bloody things!

Sincerely,
Matthew

You worded this a little wrong. Your regal is GREAT in your reef. Your reef is not great with your regal.

Well, you've got me there :lmao:

Sheol, thanks for the input.

My favia does seem ok so far, as well as my Pagoda Cup. Any opinions on Acans, Blastomussa, or Heliofungia? Would they stand up?

Acans? Sorry, they are out. Its generally the meatier polyps angels like to munch. But even here there are exceptions. Some are, well, Angels. Others eat every Cnidarian in a tank. Its the fish, itself that decides. Tridacna clams are also frequently bothered, BTW.

Sincerely,
Matthew

3 years, in a huge bed of them (fortunately wiped out in the tank crash back in January. They haven't recovered like the Discosoma which are preceeding with their previous invasion plans!). Nope, somehow she got them convinced she was an entre'. Of course, she uses the striped "shrooms currently. I wish the Bi-color would eat these things! They grow back fast, but some grazing would keep them in balance! Gotta be a fish that will!
