First thing is to test for ammonia in the 50 gal QT. If that is 0, then elaborate on what "just put him in there" means. Where did you get him from? How was he transported? What was your acclimation procedure (very important)?
Do you notice anything visibly wrong with the fish (other than laying on the bottom)? Heavy breathing, dots on his skin, etc.? A pic (or video) might help.
Definitely need more information. What is the salinity of the QT vs. the salinity of the transport bag? A good rule of thumb is to match the QT salinity to the bag water before putting the fish in.
He died, The ammonia is 0 and the salinity is 23 ppm. I did a 1 hour and 30 min float and 1/2 a cup of water every 10 mins. He was breathing hard but no spots. R.I.P
If you were adding water to the bag, this means the bag had to be opened at some point. And if the fish had been in the bag a long time, ammonium would have converted to ammonia and done serious damage to that fish's gills and ultimately kidneys. At least an hours worth if you did a 1 hr 30 min acclimation.

+1 Also, always have some Amquel or Prime on hand just in case things don't go as planned, and you are forced to SG acclimate the fish. Squirting a little Prime or Amquel in that bag would have neutralized any ammonia, and probably saved the fish's life.
