Angels with your clams

I had to remove a coral beauty from my 120 gal tank when he developed a taste for clams. The clams now have their own tank and the coral beauty is back in his home.

Angels in general are bad news for clams. Even the safest angel for clams is still about a 50/50 shot for being a clam nipper, most people say.

I also know a few people in the local club that had a well fed angel for years without problems, then one day they turn into clam murderers. I'm not sure I would personally be comfortable with that gamble.

I have never had a problem with any Centropyge spp. angel nipping on my clams. Generally, they just grazed off the rock.

I have a Majestic Angel and a Blue Maxima I introduce the Angel after the clam and the Angel doesnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t give the clam a second look or my SPS or LPS. I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t have flat worm but I seen a few tanks with bad flat worm infestations and the Majestic Angels cleaned them up. Out of all the Angels IMO Majestic Angel is the probably the best behaved.

i have kept soem of the large pomacanthus angels with no problem, but then the black out hit and they all went. I had an emperor and a majestic with 7 clams and no problem.

I have 4 large angels in my 300 gallon with 2- 8-inch Derasas. I have a Blueface, Majestic, Queen, and Emperor, and none of them bother the clams. I think that smaller clams have more of a tendency to be picked on than the larger clams. I actually had more problems with my Copperband Butterfly than the Angels.

No problems with the Queen. I can't keep zoos, xenia, star polyps, and certain mushrooms with the Queen, but so far so good with the clams. They have all been together for a year now.

I have also found that Large Angels can be kept together as long as 1 is larger than the others so the line of domination is easily established. Nobody messes with the Blueface, thus no fighting.

My flame angel pestered my crocea to death and also my squamosa died from my flame angel about two weeks ago. Doesn't bother my 8" derasa though. Biting my nails to see what will/won't happen.

I had to remove a coral beauty that I had with me for a over two years. It developed a habit of nipping at my clams. He's in my neighbors FOWLR and my clams are happier.

I have a small Centrophyge acanthops that has never looked at any of my 7 clams ranging from 2" to 6". He is very well fed though, picking from the rocks all day 75G with 130lbs of well aged mature liverock.

I have a pair of Centropyge potteri in my 125. The female constantly picks at a big squamosa. She is so small and the clam is so big that it doesnt really bother the clam.
