I wanted to get more info on them does anyone know where I can go?

my friend and I fell in love at first site with one at a LFS.

also where is a LFS that gets them regularly ?

For starters, The Frogfish Files here on RC is a great source of firsthand info.

Zubi's Frogfish site is another great online resource.

Grimreefers has a forum devoted to frogfish but it's not too popular.

Finally, Scott Michael's Reef Fishes Vol 1 has a whole section devoted to frogfish.

As for LFS, Reefhotspot on the westside gets them in regularly. They are hit or miss at other LFS and be prepared to pay a pretty penny for the more popular, colorful varieties like maculatus (Warty Frogfish).

I have a bright yellow painted frogfish which I've had for a year now. He literally started off the size of a nickel and would eat frozen mysis shrimp that floated by. I keep him in a custom open-topped nano tank 11 x 11 x 11, w/ a hydor seltz pump on a closed loop, 1" of live sand and about 2lbs of live rock. Pretty much just biological filtration w/ the rock & sand.

I change a few cups of water every month or so (add water from my main aquarium). I feed him one or two damsels every 1-3 weeks. He is about 2.5" now and real chubby. The only other tank inhabitants are a small domino damsel that for some reason he hasn't ate. He eats all the damsels I throw in there, however chooses to ignore the small domino, maybe they're buddies or something. There's also a 2" grey crab, w/ thick claws that I had found hitchhiked in. Pretty easy fish to keep as long as you can aquirre a healthy one. Those links that Texsun provided are great sources of additional info. Good luck!

Here's a pic of him in a holding tank couple months after I got him.

Here's a pic of my old frogfish during acclimation. Note the rubber band around his arm. :)

The Aquarium in Culver City (corner of Sepulveda and Sawtelle) has 1 in stock for weeks now.

been there like twice already I didnt even see the frogfish good to know tho

thanks

I'm not sure if it's an angler or a frogfish since I'm new to the whole saltwater thing but it's 1 of those 2. The fish is in the small display over the LR bin where all the inverts are.

Also if you look for anything specific ask for John there and let him know what you are looking for. He is the guy that buys live stock from the whole sellers every Monday.

I'm a bit of a frogfish addict, so here's what I've seen in the past week:

Reefhotspot has a med sized brownish commerson as well as a huge (11") bright yellow commerson.

Tong's had a tuberosus as of last weekend. Not a species I recommend for a beginner.

Jeff's in Gardena had a a couple of large yellow commersons as well as a sanguineus that they've had for at least a month.

Aquatic Fantasy in Redondo had a yellow warty that they've marked down a couple of times (still $150 or something like that).

Like I said, generally the brighter the more $$$ so be prepared. Flip side is that they tend to take a little longer to sell so you'll eventually come across some with patience.

I'll have to check out the one at the Aquarium next time I'm on the westside for a meeting to see if it's worthy of the collection. :p

Talk about touring the LFS in the area.
The fish at the Aquarium is pink in color and about 3 inches long but also 3 high.

texsun,

medusa on pico has some in as well. why don't you pop on in and see if there still there and let me know what species they are  i was gonna pick up a couple of them but won't do it unless i can get an i.d. on them so i know their needs.

Darn, I was just on the westside this morning but only had time to stop by reefhotspot!

Nanolurker, you sure about that? Might not be there when once I'm done! :D

i HOPE they're still there. i was there july 29 or 30 and they had three or four in. i really wanted to bring them home but was going out of town for 5 days and didn't want to overwhelm the fish sitter :)

i'm not too good at id'ing fish but i can usually pick out a frogfish :D

Well my friend does have the tank set-up yet

I bought a 34 gallon hex stand and canopy a few months back and I told him he could use it for his frogfish tank.

so now I am trying to figure out what we need to get it started

The LFS on Vermont just south of James Wood had a white frogfish for $25. Is that a good price?

this lfs is 3 blocks away from my house. is this lfs any good?

I never went inside before. I am also too lazy to walk down there lol

do they have a good section of corals and fish ?
