Angry Acro :(

This is the first night in my tank for this colony and it has sweepers out like crazy. Good thing its way away from everything.

I didn't know acros had sweepers. That's news to me. I have 3 different acro species growing that are within 1/2" of touching. Should I be worried?

From my experience some do but not all do. The deepwater arcos from what I have seen do not but milli and acro can have them. I learned the hard way when I bought quite a few nice frags. I had them all on a frag shelf. My thought was that this would be the best way to light acclimate them as I could just move the shelf up an in or so a week until I was at the top. One by one my frags would completely bleach overnight. I couldnt not figure it out for the life of me. My parameters were good. One night when I had nothing to do I sat there and watched the tank for a couple hours and I noticed once the lights when down the sweepers came out. It figured that it was pretty much too late at that point, I only had 1 or 2 left from the entire set but I learned my lesson.

Wow. I feel like I'm going back to school lol. That is good information to know. Do montipora or birds nests have sweepers. I've never had any issues with my sps stinging each other and they're all very close. I'll definitely keep an eye out on future species I add. I can at least confirm that the ones I currently have aren't with sweepers. Sucks about some of yours dying. So far the only sps I've managed to kill are birdsnests and a pocillopora. Never figured out what caused it either because all my Acros and montis are fine.
