Another dumb skimmer question

So I've seen a few systems where the return to sump line is y'ed off and plumbed right to the skimmer and was just wondering if they noticed a benefit? Other then reduce of y and electricity. I guess I'm asking did u notice a better foam or not? Thanks for any info.

I do it for both having one less pump on the system, and therefore one less pump to fail. I've never actually run a tank any other way though

That sounds like a good idea actually. That'll also save on electricity and there will be less heat generated.

Thanx I'm thinking of doing that but don't want to take any filtration factor out of my skimmer. I know I'm already over skimming my tank by putting an ASM G1x on a fifty gal. Then moding it to be recalculating then putting a rio 1100/needle wheel on top of the sedra 3500/needle wheel. I think I'm going to have to take the rio off and try this way to see what I get.

So today I plumbed my skimmer to my return to sump line by T-ing it off and putting a ball valve. In the first hour I noticed a better skim. Most part cus I can play with the volume of water that flows through it.
