ANOTHER elegance thread

I am just curious. My elegance will regularly withdraw for a day. Each time I panicked and pm'd Elegance Coral and he reassured me it was okay and we discussed a probably cause. Mine is withdrawn today and I don't know why but, I am not scared this time! So do other people's elegance corals withdraw for a day for no known or obvious reason? Does anybody else experience this? I can't remember who it was, maybe ryanbrucks (?), who just posted that his was withdrawn after feeding.

mine will do this at night only. During the day parts of it will withdrawl then go back out. Fully expanded mine is about 14".

it is still not coming out today ... I know ... don't worry! Hey striperman -- my husband loves fishing for stripers too ...

They are good fishing and good eating to!! I guess it is karma, but my elegance decided to stay in today. I hope it works out for you.

I have had one that exhibited signs of the typical elegance coral problem (it is aussie, so this is strange, unless at wholesale it was housed with indos) .. but it has slowly tried to grow back its tentacles instead of completely die off.

Some days it is puffier than others and its short (half inch to an inch) tentcles are sticky as the day i got it when it was huge and more elegant looking.

Who knows what tehse things are doing ><

Can you post a pic? How long has it been since the last water change?

Hi Darell -- I do water changes every two weeks so it was a week ago. I never miss a week. I am trying to get my calcium up slowly and this week I actually remembered to do my second dosing. It has been hanging around 380 and I have been trying to get to 420. Would a change in the calcium level make it cranky? Lights are out so picture will not show much. Will get one tomorrow night when I get home from work if it is still withdrawn. I leave in the morning before lights have been on.

I don't think the low calcium by itself will make it cranky. Make it bail out eventually, yes. Elegance corals withdrawing somewhat for a day is no big deal. If they stay that way or they begin doing it on a more frequent basis, there is most likely something wrong with the water. Contrary to popular belief, these corals do not do better in tanks with elevated phosphate and/or nitrate. You have your coral in the sand, right? Has the skeleton changed color?

It was a bit more extended last night so I think it is coming back. It is on the sand and my water is good -- phosphates and nitrates are always zero. The skeleton color is the same. Maybe it is just its way of telling me to get my act together and get my calcium up! I dosed again last night and I will measure everything this next weekend before I do a water change.

Mine does this at night also and I reason that it is pH related. I haven't had my refugium up since I got it and when I dose kalk at night it doesn't happen as often/bad
