I was looking at my LR & it looked like there were some new critters in there.

Some pieces of my LR have crevices that look like an animal lived on the rock & basically built a tunnels/exoskeletons on them. I just figured that was from when the rock was actually in the ocean & nothing lived in there anymore.

Low & behold there is stuff living in those holes. I'd say it's like a mini-feather duster, but it's built into the rock. (I do have a feather duster. These small ones don't have any coloration. They're just clear.)

Here's a pic, though not very good:

Here's a better picture of one of the "tunnels":

Also: I think I may have hair algae. Is hair algae literally like strands of hair?

A guess is a vermetid snail or one of a number of other harmless filter feeders, can't tell from the picture; hair algae is indeed hair-like.

Thanks for the reply. As long as they're not going to hurt anything I'm going to leave them be.

As for the hair algae- Guess it's time to pick up some Phosban until I get my RO/DI. Is hair algae toxic or is it just a pain? I thought I had read that it was toxic.

it's pretty much just a pain, but if you don't keep on top of it, you'll be toxic! lol you may be over feeding - it needs nutrients to grow - find out where its food is coming from and nip the problem in the bud. I would still use a phosphate reactor - in fact - get 2 - use the other for carbon.

I already have a phosphate reactor that I use for carbon. It'll have to be used for Phosban until the Cheato starts growing.

It's odd because today was the 1st day I've fed in the last 3 days. It's also the 1st time I've cleaned the protein skimmer in 3 days.

It is about time for my weekly water change. I think I'm going to start increasing the volume of water I change during my water changes.
