Another interesting discussion. Maybe.

So, after watching videos on youtube none stop. I decided to make a fishroom. Kinda. Im not rich enough to make this masterful, super well thought out and super organized thing.... but its something.

In my "fish room", I have my 55G sump and refugium, but I sorta cleaned it out and added another 20G tank that is currently bare and full of water :P
what-to-do-what-to-do... I also have another 20G aquarium thats empty, but it used to house hamsters so Idk if its a good idea to use it as aquarium. Maybe if I clean it real nice?

This is "the fish room". I'm planning on a remodeling a bit perhaps down the road. I definitely need to paint it with water proof paint or some kind of plastic wall paper to prevent the walls from getting damaged. (further damaged). Maybe Ill paint it all blue and draw in some waves and fish to make it more fishie lol I also want to replace that stand where the tank is and get a shelve and have maybe 3-4 tanks going up way down the road.

Anyways, back to the maybe interesting discussion.

Salt water Molly fish.... Did i get your attention?:artist:

Ok so, I was thinking... Maybe I could buy 4-5 yellow larytail Mollies and slowly turn them into saltwater and then put them into my reef... Then I could have the "Anthias" look, without having to spend 30 dollars per fish. lol
I've seen people have this mollies on full reefs and say they are great for algae control, in addition to getting more vibrant in saltwater. Unknowingly I may have set up a "theme" of brackish water as I have 5 Mono Argentus in the tank too... so maybe they will fit right in
Anyone here doing this?

Also, Im trying to decide what to do with that 20G. (and the other 20G if I can succesfully clean it)... It has to be something not too expensive as I would rather spend the big Bucks stocking my 150G with coral lol:fish2:

Converse :D

I've got mollies in my sump and had them in my tank for a while too. They do a great job at eating algae event he tangs don't want. And they never bother anyone either.

Awesome, I was thinking on maybe starting them from fresh water first and slowly adjust the salinity, however, I thought that wouldnt work unless I had a bare tank and did multiple water changes because I wouldnt be able to establish the proper bacteria as the salinity would be changing.

So then I thought that maybe I could get an overflow box and some PVC pipes and run the water all the way to the filter sock of my 150, then get a smaller return pump and throw that water back into the 20. My 150 would benefit from added water and LR, and my 20 would benefit from the 150. Then maybe later add 3-4 of them into the DT. And I wouldnt even need to cycle this tank since the 150 is already cycled :D

No clue. I just stuck mine in a five gallon tank and raised the salinity over a week then dropped them into the DT.

I've been also reading that fancy tail Guppies are able to get acclimated to saltwater as well. Albeit way slower.

I suppose I could kinda start freshwater and slowly raise the salinity over a week or something? THEN connect it to the main tank? Have a small DOUBLE refugium type thing going

So yeah, I think that's what I will end up doing. Tomorrow after my test, Ill go to lfs, buy some sand, rock and epoxy and go to town with the aquascape. All the meanwhile I will drip acclimate 4-5 Mollies and 3 fancy tail guppies to start out at maybe .5 salinity. Building and gluing the rock should take me about 2-3 hours. Then while the tank clears up after I add the water, it should roughly be about an 8 hour acclimation to .5 salinity.

Then I will probably do a water change every day to increase it by .075ish a day. That would give me about 7-8 days to increase it to 1.025.
Do you guys think this would be enough? Or should I dilute it even further to make it a full two weeks?
I feel like its pretty dragged out but Im not sure, what do you guys think? I've seen a few people just do a 7 hour acclimation all the way to 1.025. (as opposed to taking a week).
