I'm helping a friend set up a tank, but the lighting part is where I need some help, I don't feel confident enough to recommend to him. His tank is a 50 gallon, the OD is 36" long and 18 front to back, and about 18" tall. (It is not the same as the 'typical' 55 gallon that are long and skinny, (48 x 13"), this one is more squatty.)
He will have live rock and some basic fish, (I'm steering him away from coral eaters) and I'm going to frag some of my stuff like Xenia, zoas, Ricordia, yellow polyps, red mushrooms, Kenya tree. No interest in SPS at this point. But if my upcoming foray into bubble-tip anemones works out, he might want to do the same, but I am working on a MH setup, and I think he is more inclined towards t5. Any suggestions would be great. I am not as familair with t5 so I don't know what kind of wattage would be needed on this size tank. Or, is t5 even the best option?
