Tank as it sits now
The tank is atop of an open metal stand. I've have an pretty awesome little boy named Ryder. He's about to turn 1 in a couple days and is starting to walk. Which means BABY PROOFING!
I decided to build a stand rather than buy one. It would seem with this project my creative nature has gotten the best of me again. The initial thought of building the stand to save a couple has turned into a fully custom piece of art.
This is drawling of what I'm building
The footprint of the stand is 6"6' Long X 2' wide x 6" tall. I thought that wit something of this size it ought to have a bigger tank in it than my 55. so the stand is built for a 120 gallon short 48x24x24. It gives me a great deal of room to grow my reef and an excellent deep width for aquascaping.
The front face of the wave will be finished with a dark blue burst staining. For those of you familiar with guitars its based off a Les Paul, but the grain is birch rather than mahogany. it will also epoxied with a high build bar top clear coat to give it depth.
The side and top of the wave, and the quarter round section of the bottom will be frosted Plexiglas. They will be lit from inside the stand with color changing led strips.
As i do have a little one and a job the project has been slow going, But its certainly getting there.
Fist i started with a 32' tall base, it would have protruded about 6 inches past the wall its going to be placed against as to hold the proportions needed for it to look like the drawing. I tried to sneak it past my wife, but shes too smart for that so i had to shorten the stand to 24". lol
Before (the laterals are left long so i could adjust the face as needed.)
After with the top on it.
Its a nice place for the display tank to sit however, as its next to my couch and will be viewed sitting 90% of the time.
I used some pvc trim for a jig to get the curves onto the plywood. after cutting one i used it to trace the back panel with. they were then
Clamped together and belt sanded for a even smooth finish.
Most of the Face Ply cut, just without the bottom left corner.

The canopy being framed. Its framed similar to a skateboard ramp, just backwards.
As of right now the canopy is framed and is ready to be secured to the base. I don't have photos as it was to dark but ill post some later when i can take some.
Hope you guys think its a cool project! I think it'll be a real stunner when completed!
