Anthelia & Xenia, Nutrient Exporter?

I have quite a bit of Anthelia and some Xenia in my tank. Are they any good at nutrient export? They are currently growing like weed. If they are not useful for any practical purpose, I would like to trim them down before I run out of room for corals and others.

Removal of rapid growing xenia has indeed been used as method of nutrient export by some ;)

And I bet a good source of side income. If you lived closer I'd ask if I could trade for your extra Anthelia/Xenia. Just an Idea :)

Growing thru the front side of the rocks were OK, but some started to grow into back side and crevices of the rocks, which started to worry me. Since my tank is 24" deep, it is not easy to even reach many areas.

I scraped off most of the anthelia/xenia with some left on the easy-to-access area only. It was a labor that took more than an hour. I just ordered chaetomorpha thru ebay today. I will try using this for nutrient export from now on.

Thanks, guys.

aquajames,

Do you have any pictures of yoru xenia and anthelia? My anthelia used to grow very fast but now it has slowed down.

I attach the picture of Anthelia. This small patch is all that is left now. Since the harvest, this small patch is already showing signs of lateral growth. Also, my tuxedo urchin is responsible for spreading the anthelia to other places, as it likes to carry around several anthelia on its back, spilling them here and there. I had to clean the urchin as well.

Having a little problem posting the picture. Do you know how to reduce the size of file? The file is currently in 3072x2048, 210KB in JPG format.

aquajames,

Do you have any image editing programs like Adobe Photoshop? If not you can e-mail it to me and I will gladly shrink it for you. My e-mail address is in my profile.

Here is the picture of Xenia.

As you suggested, I purchased Adobe Photoshop and managed to reduce the file size. Thanks.
