anthias dead, temp swing to blame?

So I bought a new female anthias and when i was adding her to my qt tank somehow, i dont know how but the heater got turned all the way up, when i checked the temp that day it was all the way OVER 86! i immedatly did a water change with cooler water and floated a frozen Gatorade bottle overnight the water got down to 78 and the anthias was dead. Could the high temp then change to low temp be the problem?

That could very likely be the cause considering the stress of moving to a new tank and then the temperature swing. 86 is high enough to cause stress and with the addition of moving around it's more than likely what happened. Anthias are very sensitive fish initially so it is the likely cause. Not your fault or anything, these things happen, but qt'ing is definitely the way to go and I'm sure you'll have better luck in the future if you keep up good practices like that.
