anthias

when i feed my anthias, they eat like two or three mysis shrimp then they stop. is this because they are a constant zooplankton grazer? will they ever get to the point where they will fill themselves up 2 times a day instead of me feding tiny ammounts 4 times a day?

they seem to eat... just not a lot, only a few mysis shrimp every feeding.

normal or no? will they get trained to eat the more food 2 times a day?

I have a male of the same anthias you have. I feed once a day. He stuff's his mouth full of food until he can not get any more in his mouth. Then he stops trying to stuff and chews down what he has. Sort of like a chipmunk. Then he starts stuffing his mouth full again. Your fish maybe doing the same thing only they don't start eating again for some reason or you are not seeing them start again.

My anthias eats frozen brine shrimp, frozen monster-sized mysis that MS is selling and Ocean Nutrician Brine Shrimp Plus flakes. I alternate a different one of these every day.

My fish ate like a pig from the start fortunately. How's your flow in the tank when you feed? Maybe you could cut off the powerheads during feeding. I don't do this, but it might help your fish???

Mine wouldn't touch the flakes at first, but while I had them in QT when I first got them, I gave them little bits of the frozen brine along with flakes. Eventually, while they were in their feeding frenzy they gobbled up the flakes too. Now, I can just put flakes in there without them having to be enticed with other stuff first. And they love cyclopeeze.

mine dont eat any flakes... i have quite a bit of flow.

they do eat, just not like pigs yet. i will cut the flow to give them more time when feeding

Good idea. Maybe since they have a funny way of eating they will have time to eat a couple mouths full before the food is gone.

they are eating more now.

my other question is, aren't these guys supposed to be very active fish that pace around in the middle of the tank?? i dunno if mine are still scared or what, but they seem to like their caves and the lower half of the tank more than anything. when they do come out, they just kinda hang around in the right hand corner/side of the tank.

-my clown and six line are more active than they are

are they just new/scared or should i be worried?

oooooooooooooooooooooookay :D

just a bit nervous... my 14 day guarentee is slowly wearing down, only like 10 days left!

My orange anthias is very active and swims all around. Sometimes he hangs out in the caves. This variety is a darker light/cave dweller. So if yours are in the bottom part of the tank and lurking in rock, that makes sense.

i only wear that to GWA... not around my tank, the halieds give off too much light. i would sweat to death

you are just jealous because my red hat is dead sexy

what kind of kittens are you petting now??

I am veering towards a brunette this week...since you mentioned dead sexy. :-)

Matt those are very beautiful Anthias, I have been tempted by them but I am gone from home too much to properly care for them.
