if you are running a bubbermaid or equivilant, lets see them. I just picked up a 300 gallon vat yesterday, plans for it are for sharks or rays, along with my eels. Could use any advice on setting these up you could give, would love to hear your ideas.

Lunker,

I have setup a 300 gallon poly livestock tank (8'x3'x2').

It is a temp setup until I get a new tank in the spring. I picked it up to house some tangs from a friend whom had them and had to breakdown his setup due to some bad luck. I got his 9" naso, 8" hipo and 5" yellow.

I will be adding some other new tangs and likely a some triggers and some angels.

Tank has two 1 1/2" bulkhead for overflows ... just using the bulkhead and 90 degree elbow - adjusted. The poly is easy to cut any holes ... I screwed up and bit ... will detail later.

Each bulkhead is separate ... designed that way for redundancy ... both right now are skimming off the top.

They dump into a 75 gallon sump (tank). There is a 20 gallon rubbermaid RDSB.

I will post some pictures later this weekend when I get some time.

thanks for the feedback carant, what size pump do you run?, I was thinking either a dart or a hammerhead. cant wait to see some pics.

Lunker,

Sorry I kinda fell off the face of the earth ... Pictures still to follow.

Planning on using a Mag18 (since that is what I have got it cheap) ... . Still building the manifold.

Only have a RDSB running about 250-300 gallons per hour and a few powerheads.

Before that I will give you my mistakes.

The tub is on a raised floor ... so I though that there was no need for syrofoam. This was a mistake on two fronts.

First, the syrofoam would provide some vibration dampening.

Secondly, I did not take into consideration the height of the sump ... and thus the placement of the bulkhead holes. So I put the holes in the tub however due to the location of the ridge that runs along the top ... the top of the sump was higher than the bulkhead.

So the sump is now on the floor itself ... in the way. If the tub was on a 2" piece of syrofoam, this would not be a problem.

Not a castrophic error however it is a pain and caused me much grief and rethinking .... etc etc. This after is all just a temp solution until the new tank is build.

Again, pictures to follow.

Bruce

PS Please lets hear from others ... your suggestions and experience will help everyone so share your mistakes and successes.
