Any advice about this light?

Hi,
I was thinking about upgrading my lights. I currently have two long flourescent lights on the tank - not sure of the light output other than 55 watts. its a 55 gallon that has been set up for almost a year. I am still new at this and was thinking about getting this light http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=12113&N=2004+113352
I currently have mushrooms and zoo's but would like to expand options for what I can keep. I was thinking that with the metal halide that would allow me to keep a wider variety of corals from what I have been reading. I'm looking for something simple. I have been reading these forums and get so confused on lighting; ballasts, retro kits and other things. I was thinking that this would be a nice all in one easy to set up no fuss light. Anyone every heard about or had any experience with a light like this before? Thank you.

I agree, that would probably be a simple solution to purchasing separate components. Plus you don't have to deal with wiring and such.

You don't have a location so depending on your home temp, you may have to consider picking up a chiller as well. If you do pick up this unit though, make sure to acclimate your little ones.

MH+T5 > MH+PC

MH+T5 > MH+PC

The problem with PC lighting is that it is inefficient (~60 lumens per watt) and hard to design reflectors for.

Better fixtures use T5HO lighting (~90 lumens per watt) instead of PC lighting. A better fixture is the 48” Current USA 2x150w HQI with 4x54w T5 and 18xLED:

It will use less electricity, last longer, produce more light and cost less. You will have more choices in long lasting T5HO bulbs to mix and match.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking it was a good light - just wanted someone to confirm. And pjf - I looked at the light you posted a link to - I had not seen one with T5's. That is the one I will be ordering. Once again, thank you:)
