any body ever seen a gem tang locally ?

Nope, ive never seen one in a LFS,but it seems like 3k is alot for them? how much do they usually go for?

I've never seen one at all in person, locally or elsewhere. Beautiful but, that is just way too much to pay for a fish. Besides, what is rare now might not be in the future. I remember reading a post somewhere a while back where purple tangs used to cost several hundred dollars.

LauraCline, Thats very true I'll just wait it out to the price drops, personally-IMO-I seen cheaper fish with better color but, its all good.

yeah i started to look at my sailfin tang tonight as was admiring his spots on the face. ive kinda got my gem tang lol.

maybe i could put some black die in his food then woolah my own gem tang.. just kidding..

or i could cust look at him in the dark and barely see his spots..

ok disregard this post...

I saw one at Finz a while back but it was gone in a week after holding to a guy that bought it with a Gold flake and Interuptus and some other big expensive fish pair (I think crosshatch). Anyways I remember drooling over it though and seeing your avatar every day reminds me of it. It was a GORGEOUS fish!

hey thats another idea daddy jax.
i could print the fish out and stick him to the aquarium LOL.
yeah.. i imagine they are one sweet fish.
i also love the goldflake angel.
might settle for the flagfin angel oneday.
wonder if him and my juv. emperor would fight>

I was told they are expensive because only one guy has a license in madagascar to export them. I figure when someone else gets a license to export the price will drop

I remember seeing on a site that collecting them is dangerous. Their habitat is reef ledges in the surf whick makes them dangerous to collect. but probably BS. They are from southeast Africa.

they have been one of the more expensive fish for the entire time I have been in the hobby. their price has only gone up. 10x . I saw one for $300 back in the day. the price was crazy then and worse now. ask john at ichthy or chris's at finz to locate one for you. one of them can get one if you are willing to pay.
daddy was that pierre that got all those fish?

if i knew i was going to stay where we are at for like 5-10 years i wouldnt mind investing 2-300 maybe. given that some tangs live 20-25 years. other than that i will just enjoy my avitar
