I wanted to see if anyone that will be at the meeting this weekend would want this Emerald Crab I got during the raffle at the last meeting? He is kind of large and aggrevating me with his rock moving habits.I will do my best to catch him if someone will take him but if there is no interest , I will just leave him be and see if I can deal with him by glueing more of my rocks in place. I would hate to see anything happen to him so he is safe here but I would be more than happy to part with him if anybody is interested. He is in my 29 gallon tank and I think he just needs more room and my 90 gallon is not very close to being up and running .PM me if you are interested. Thanks

Willember if I can catch him ...,he is yours. I will do my best to corner him before the meeting this weekend. Thanks so much for taking him. He does not show himself very often so you might try crossing your fingers that he will drop his guard long enough for me to nab him.

Hey Grannybj

Try getting a small pack of Algae wafers made by Hikari. I don't know if Kermit's carries them because they're made for plecostomus and seem more like fresh water food but Petco does.

If you feed him tiny bits to give him a taste of them and then use one to bait a trap, I'll bet you can get him. They go nuts for them and so do my algae blenny and tang.

If your address is correct on your check, I can put a few in an envelope and drop them in the mail to you.

Good luck trapping.

Cathy

Cathy thanks for the info and yes the address is correct . I will try to go get some myself if I can get time. My work schedule is jacked up this week plus my refrigerator quit and I will be leaving at daylight Sunday going to Florida for a week so my time is going to be tight. Between working crazy hours and packing and getting a new fridge bought and installed it looks like a crazy week . I wrote down what you said to get so maybe I can make it to Petco in between all that other stuff.
thanks again
BJ

Don't worry.

I'll drop them in the mail tomorrow, you should have them Thursday. That way you're not out anything if they don't work.

No problem .... Happy to help

Let me know how they work.

I've caught a number of crabs and the Blenny by feeding them in my trap a time or two. Once they're comfortable and go in without hesitation, I nab them.

No rush on the Emerald. I have an open door policy, so when evey he decides its time, just ring me up and I'll swing by and get him. (490-3739)

I have been... regularly... But I just realised I had 120 messages in the outbox.:eek1:

Cathy,
the wafers came today and I broke one up and threw it in the corner where the crab tends to hang out . It was funny to watch. all the hermits came running and fought over the pieces and then my tiny emerald (not the one I am trying to rehome) came out and took it away from the hermits and scurried away. I did not see the big emerald for hours so i finally caught a glimpse of him and threw him half a wafer. He really likes it just like you said he would. The hermits tried to take his and he won. I will give him the other half tomorrow and see if I can trap him with some on saturday. Thanks again for the wafers and the entertainment watching my critters when I dropped some in the tank.
I have another question too ...I bought my original 2 emerald crabs over a year ago and they were exactly the same size which was very small . Within a week one molted and doubled in size, a month later he did it again which made him huge. I found him another home long ago. The other one has never molted or grown, is that normal? It is healthy and eats well but does seem to be a little on the light green side in coloration. I am not upset that it has not grown but I wondered if it is normal for one to stay the same size for so long.

Hmm, could you put them in a clip on the glass to keep anyone from carrying the waffer off in to the rockwork? I think I may try that so my rabitfish has something to nibble on.

I don't know why some grow big and others don't. It almost does seem like they might be mixing a few different types of crabs marketed as "Emerald crabs".

Willem, I don't thik the wafers would clip too well. I think they'd crumble and break. Your rabbit fish will pick at it on the sand.

They definitely are a hit with every algae eater I've had. And yes ... the hermit crab "Smackdown" is hilarious to watch. I've got one big hermit that tries to take on my big yellow tang over those wafers. They sure jump into warp speed when one hits the sand.
