Any BTA keepers had luck with reefbreeders fixtures?

Looking at a reefbreeders value fixture for what might turn into a nem/clown tank down the road. I'm wondering if I might benefit by changing the basic spectrum they offer since it's only $10.

I have a value fixture over my bta dominant tank. Although I have never had any other types of fixture, it works very well IME.

If you were to buy the fixture again would you change any colors, and if so what to what?

Reef breeders fixture is fine for a bta and long as you have enough fixtures for proper coverage of your tank... This fixture has 3 watt bridgelux leds and that is what you need too look at, crees are better but bridgelux leds are fine. It also is a full spectrum and leans more white than blue and that is important too me too..

Bta's really dont require lots of light like other anemones.. Back in the day I kept them just fine under N.O. fluorescent lamps... Rose anemones I feel do require a little more light than the greens.. I would actually worry with leds having more than enough light.

I got the previous model in 12/2012. Since then, they have changed the color spectrum since a lot of people were complaining about the 16" fixtures having too much of a pink hue. I never noticed since I have never owned any other types of lights. A lot of people are liking the new layout so far.

Also the full spectrum light is controversial. I do believe corals want the full spectrum, but several hobbyist believe plain royal blue and white is all that is needed and other colors are just a waste of electricity.

Do you know what was changed? I have a friend with one and that was his complaint. Too pink.

There is 2 red and 2 deep reds, totaling 4 types of reds. I think that was the main issue. The newer model only has 2 deep reds (when I last checked a few months ago). If you want, you can DIY and change out the 2 deep reds with royal blue or some other color.

I have a photon48 over my tank with numerous BTA's. So far the BTA's are doing just fine under this light. I like the color spectrum, with both channels at 100% it shows very close to the same color as my 20k radium bulbs did.

OOPS when I made my post I was thinking of reef radiance. Doesn't matter most of the Chinese are made by the same company Evergrow including what reef breeders sells.

Most chinese fixtures I have seen don't have any optics like the reefbreeders. They just have led's on a reflective plate.


As far as enough light/to much light. I have a value fixture w/ 90degree optics and my RBTA walked all the way to the top, maybe 10-12" away from th fixture. I recently put it in a breeder box as it was starting to get to close to some sps I had up top.

I have a rose bubble tip under my full spectrum Evergrow D120 fixture. Absolutely great, kind of peachy orange, a bit bigger since switching from my vertex fixtures.

FWIW, I am successfully keeping a Magnifica anemone under a ReefBreeders Photon32. If you find the fixture too 'pink' you can diffuse the red LEDs by sticking a piece of aluminum tape on the plastic cover just under them.

Funny thing is, is that I I turned on both channels to their lowest setting over my 14g biocube. Within about an hour every polyp on my zoa's opened up. Since I have got them, I have never once seen every polyp open at the same time. That was with a week under a kessil 150 15k, and then another week under the stock biocube lights. They actually really seem to not like the white biocube lights more than anything else.

I have had a rose tip under the 2 photon 16" in my 90 gal for about 4 months. Two weeks after getting the nem, he had split. Both nems doing well about 8" from the top. They haven't even moved from my original placement in the tank. I keep my lights at a max of 70% for about 7 hours with a ramp up and ramp down.

Well I just got the fixture on my nano yesterday, and today was the first day it ran for any amount of time. Well tonight I happened across a really nice rbta at my LFS that they cut me a decent deal on. Acclimated it and knocked the lights down to about 10%. The bta closed up and now it's lights out, so hopefully all goes well in the am when the lights come back on.
