Any good stores in Fargo or Grand Forks??

I am aware of the pet store in the mall in Grand Forks, but are there any others?? I haven't been to Fargo yet and was wondering.

fargo area is very limited as far as coral selection but we do have k-9 country club in north moorhead that has/had a coral tank and there is great pets in south fargo that is under the same owners as k-9 and only recently opened which has pretty much taken up all theyre time and realy put a damper on the coral selection if any at all, but they do plan getting back into it soon
we also have petco that has 1 or 2 random corals a week mostly plain jane green a brown stuff

as far as fish go all three usauly have a good selction of the more common stuff and radomly the rarer stuff, i havent paid much attention to the fish as of latley

theres 2 lfs in grand forks that i know of i dont know the names off the top of my head but one is in the big mall (columbia?) and there is another one in a smaller mall a little NE of the big one i think. both usauly have some of the normal stuff

but if u want to take a little drive and try to smuggle something over the border there is a couple of realy good stores in winnipeg. the #1 store prolly is salt water connection which also produces there own line of skimmers and stuff, i think theyre the squid line

theres also a few stores in bismark ND if ur ever passing through

i hope to try heading east into the cities area someday to see what kind of stores are around but w/ gas prices and money being tight i dont know when

Fargo is VERY Limited. Tony from K/9 is really trying to get Great Pets off the ground and is having issues with the store setup he bought. The pumps were under powered and he is having a huge time with Algae in the tanks. One of his guys said that he thinks they are going to sell off what they have, break it all down and start the tanks over which will take a while.

K/9 usually has a selection of fish and inverts, but the corals tank has gone for now.

I would stay away from PetCo as most of their stuff comes in sick and will pollute your tank unless you QT religiously.

GF has Stonegate Pets - I think it is the Holiday Mall, and then one in the Columbia Mall.

Bismarck has Animal Kingdom, Boyds Ark has been gone for years.

ive bought a lot of livestock from petco and if u know what ur looking for there shouldnt be any problems, theres gonna be sick fish where ever u go its up to the consumer to decide whats ok and whats not

I hate to admit it, but whatever fish I buy from Petco lives. If I buy from the others they usually die. I'm right in the middle of Fargo and Grand Forks so I go to both places quite often.

It's too bad that there aren't many places up here to buy supplies. But then again, it opens a door to a much needed service that someone can take hold of.

We, the group here, ought to get together and and do some trading. We may also want to consider group buys. Do you all think that one of the stores between Fargo and Thief River Falls would support a local reef club?? What I mean is, would they help on prices, discounts, receiving orders (like if we ordered live rock, maybe they could receive it and hold it for all to pick up), etc... Do you guys know any of the store managers/owners well enough to ask them??

Let's start a reef club!! Let's get together sometime in Grand Forks as it is half way for the Fargo folks and for people up in this area!! I will post a notice at the LFS here (fish store underneath the Ben Franklin - believe it or not, their livestock looks VERY healthy, and they plan to expand that section), and you guys can spread the word in your areas. We can also advertise on Reef Central and in this forum, maybe even some surrounding forums!! We could meet maybe around August 1 or so. After that, maybe we could start meeting at each others houses. I'd be MORE THAN HAPPY to have one or more at my house.

Whadya think??

I know the owner up in Grand Forks at Pets R Inn pretty well. At least he knows who I am when I walk in the store. Think that's a bad sign. hehe. I would love to start meeting and maybe have someone show me how to frag a few things and maybe build a sump or something. I've read up on it, but way to scared to try to do it myself without someone walking me threw it. I'm right in the middle of Fargo and Grand Forks. My house is too small to hold many people but whatever you guys want to do is fine with me. I have a good friend who may also be interested in joining us. She doesn't post much, but I will ask her.

And just because I'm a born and raised North Dakotan doesn't mean I have to like winter at all.

Pets R Inn is in the mall in Grand Forks then?? Personally, I order my livestock online. Stores really provide other services like hardware, frozen foods and sometimes livestock. But places that have cats and dogs usually neglect something.

i know most of the great pets employees/owners pretty well.
there has been talk for while about getting this club going again but there seems that there was some drama between members that caused the "break up". Tony is a super nice guy im sure he would be willing to help out but there is a lot of stuff going on with the new store so i wouldnt realy want to ask him to spread himself out any thinner

i wasnt ever involved w/ the club so i realy have no idea what realy happened

i know there is a lot of reefers in this area i just dont know where everybody is. from what ive heard from the lfs's there is some nice setups in town

Yeah, Tony is a great guy.. Has tons of knowledge. His display tank is starting to come back nicely... I'd love to have room for that puppy.

Between him and a couple of other on-line sites that I have found have been a great find. I wish I could just download his brain!!! LOL.

I haven't heard about that club, or any of the supposed drama either. In fact that is a part of life I hate and stay away from like the plague.

Thats cool.. But most people I know have chatted with on-line or locally have had issues with the fish they stock once they get them home including myself. That is why if I purchase anything from anyone I quarantine for a minimum of a two weeks religiously or visit the store frequently enough to know the fish there as well as they do and watch them eating, swimming etc. All it takes is loosing a tank once.

yeah you want to get something started let me, Know james I can talk to Tom over at petsRinn, and Andy at stonegate to see if they would help out with discounts ect for club members, I could get flyers up I know Tom and Andy would let use display them in there stores, I Know Tom very well been friends about 16 years. I promote his store on my forum, I help him out with a lot of my Frags.
I use to go to the RRVAC until I got screwed over on one of there frag swaps, and lost about Hundred dollars in coral sales.
said they would make it right then Bam!!! know more meetings.
oh well water under the bridge.
I to know theres lots of reefers and FO, FOWLR, ect out here but it's getting everyone to get involved we've tried many times to get a club going the main problem I think is everything is so widely spread out in this area and people don't like driving far to go to a club meeting??????
but if we could get enough interested in getting a club going this would be cool, I have been in many Aquatic clubs over the years in this hobby and I know in #'s this hobby really isn't that expensive, and sharing corals amoungest each other is the best way to take pressure off our reefs if were all sharing our home grown corals but with that said to we need to support our LPS too, and if done right it would benifit everyone.
Ice.

I'd be interested in starting a reef club. I'm in Fargo and have been desperately looking for something like this. I get much of my supplies from K9 country club here. If I want a better variety I end up going to the cities or Rochester,Mn where my parents live. Once a year I go to the LiveAquaria frag swap in Wisconsin. That is a great opportunity to find some variety but I don’t want to have to trade frags only once a year. It would be really great to have people to swap frags with.

If you guys want a place to meet in Grand Forks I can get a conference room arranged at UND with a PC hook up and chairs and table. It should hold at least 20-30 people. If we have less people we can meet at my apartment across the street from UND. Mr James let me know what you think.

Personally, I would rather meet at a house, regardless of size. The reason being is that your house or mine would have a tank (maybe not my house quite yet). THe way I have done reef meetings in the past has been to have a host house and that person would show off his/her system and of course do the question/answer thing. No system is too small and no system is too big. That is what I would like to see. I would vot e for the meeting room only if we had a huge number of people or if we were having a guest speaker or something.

Sounds good. Wife officially blessed the meeting. I know two other reefers locally Icereefer and Bankspower here on RC and I also know Mike from Fargo. Others can join in. What day would be a good thing to have a meeting? Saturday or Sunday? Let me know and we can get this going very soon.

I could do a Sunday. Earlier the better so I don't have to drive home in the dark and hit my first deer ever!!

I'm not ready for livestock yet, but if any of you are trying to get rid of hardware (or anything for that matter), I'm up for it. I may have a an Ice Cap VHO ballast for trade/sale.
