Any help with new Flame Angel

I was just wondering if anybody has any tips and info on these pretty guys? I introduced my first small flame last night into my 35 to 38 gal tank (lots of life rock, only 2 small button coral frags). The mandarin goby could care less, the Hipo tang and especilly the Clarki Clown are chasing the Flame but it keeps coming back out of hiding. The flame is eating and active.
Any special food they like best? Any diseases to look out for? Any advice about the chasing, although I hope its only going to last a day or two...

Do you ave any plans of upgrading tanks in the future? 35-38 is quite small for the Hippo by itself. It's plenty large enough for your clown but, due to it's aggression, it may be difficult to add new fish. If you have a sump, I would toss the clown in there, leave the tank in darkness for a day or so for the tang and possibly rearrange some rock work. They're about the middle of the road when it comes to parasites and I would recommend putting them through a QT process (keep in mind that they do not handle copper well). Feeding shouldn't be a problem as they'll eat just about anything such as frozen mysis, pick at the nori and quality pellet food.

Dude, a Blue Hippo is a tank that size? I'm not the Tang Police per se but those fish are recommended for an 8 ft, 240 gallon aquarium minimum here:

It's going to get incredibly aggressive and kill everything there in short order.

Really? It has been a model citizen for the last year, really sweet to any fish and kind of married to my clown fish, follows the clown like a puppy. However, it has been growing quite a bit lately, probably 4 times it's original size in 1 yr. I will see how it goes for a while longer, the tang never had any issues like ich and is really beautiful. If he gets stressed I will post him to find a new home.

The flame is adjusting, I arranged the tank into 3 sections, used some plastic plants, seems to be working. The chasing decreased to 1/3 of clown-flame encounters in 1 day. The flame is eating well.

I have to say - it's my dream combination: Clarki Clown (yellow, blk, wht), Hipo (blue, blk, yellow), Flame (orange, blk, blue, yellow). It doesn't get any more vibrant than this and they each have one small bit of color that the other has too. Gorgeous! :eek1:

Color, or not, you're gong to run in to some very serious problems - the only fish you have suited to the tank you have is the clown. You've already heard about the tang... The Flame Angel needs a bare minimum of 75 gallons - they're small fish, but they're fast active fish that *need* room to zip around the tank. Either it will be stressed to death, or start trying to go on a killing spree.. Either way, it will end up dead.

If that really is your dream combination, then I would start the process of setting up a 180 gallon tank yesterday...

mandarin... 38 gallon tank?

Do you have refugium? Are you supplementing pods? You should really do research before you buy your fish.. good luck.

I understand that the Clown has been great thus far, but the longer the fish has been in the same environment, the more territorial it will become... this also comes with age as the fish matures into an adult. I too love the color combination, but I can't support the size aquarium that they are in. As dainty as the Flames look, they do stick up for themselves quite well once they have achieved some level of comfortability in the aquarium. But I wouldn't look to that as success here. All of your fish may survive for a couple of years in a tank that size but it doesn't mean that they will thrive or the hobby is being done justice.

That's the rub with these things - smaller tank is probably OK for a small Hippo (say 1" or so), but they don't stay small. I was keeping a smaller one in a 90, but as it grew, larger digs became necessary.
